Decided against suscribing.

Jan 24, 2007 LittleEd link
I don't feel like going into all the reasons but they are many and mostly related to the controle interface (not being as straight forward and easy to configre) as I would like and my personal thoughts on suscripion base games and how this one is not worth a suscription as there seems to be no "economy" or "wars" or territory. Perhaps I am wrong about this and it would most likley change if popularity grows.

ANd finnally being on an offset sleep cycle from most players.

I am not saying this is a bad game or that I don't like it. I am just not interested now. I will probably come back either in a week or two (prob longer) if my "mood" changes.

Emaile me if the game starts going downhill it seems like something I would enjoy and wouldn't want to lose.

You can expect me to follow this thread for a few days.

I can understand where you are coming form. The game is kinda "static" right now. The underlying control program is all out of wack and a replacement is on it's way (soon tm).

Come on back by in a few weeks of so. The game is ever changing. The numbers will start to grew a little faster in the next few months. Hope to see you back.

So is the game static, or ever-changing?

I've recently seen new visual effects, changes to the interface, changes to the capships, minor ship balancing, and a player-requested pre-caching improvement. Except for the fog, that's all this month.

LittleEd, you're welcome to come and go as you please, but why make a whole new thread about leaving (you had one open already) and then cite reasons that you have not researched?

There IS an economy, and an improved one is on the way. There is much info about this.

There ARE territories, and you would know this if you had visited the wrong ones.

There ARE war zones (Border Patrol, for instance) though admittedly there are mostly bots in those zones unless it's prime time.

Mostly I'm annoyed that you made a new post and have given at least one new user the impression that "everyone is leaving". Give us a break and don't scare off people who might be into what we have here.

It's a tad egocentric.

Like whistler said, no need to jump the gun and go dramatic.

Other then that, cheers.

yah. it's a nice beg-for-attention type of message.

lil'ed, if some are leaving, it's usually because of external reasons, external pressure, prison time (well i suppose it did happen) and whatnot. most, too, consider coming back at some point or another because:

[ ] the community is unmatched
[ ] the game is unmatched
[ ] some features they were longing for has arrived
[ ] it's available on their platform
[ ] they suddenly have income to support the meager fee
[ ] they suddenly have time for it again
[ ] they're sick of getting their ass kicked in martial arts class and miss a cosy chair
[ ] genka has finally been banned from the boards and a real moderator put in place
[ ] a few of the above

eg, i'm currently "on leave" for an indeterministic amount of time but i've sworn some pople i'd be back to piss 'em off. like genka and a certain irc operator who'd rather not me use the bridge until i'm a paying member again ( ;-) )

in my case, it's

[x] a few of the above.

so, before announcing you're leaving, try joining first (like i did for 27 months) and then perhaps some of us will have sympathy for you.

UC -- are you waiting for:

[x] genka has finally been banned from the boards and a real moderator put in place?

[x] a few of the above.

i thought that was implicit enough.

Heya, Ed!

Yeah I want those things you mentioned, too, specifically:

"economy": Yeah I think that once the current issues regarding the AI are complete, that the dynamic economy is the next big project on the list after a little UI housekeeping and tutorial stuff. I look forward to it.

"wars for territory": We kinda have this in Deneb, but losing is consequence-free. So if the Itani just don't show up for a week, it's not like we lose Deneb. I think that THAT is coming sometime after the PCC (Player Contribution Corps) is complete and we can submit our own missions.

Matter-of-fact, most things in Vendetta are consequence-free, except killing people in non-nation faction station sectors. Otherwise you can do pretty much everything, which is great for flexible gameplay, but not very realistic.

I'd just like to add that VO is designed with a vision of extremely dynamic and flexible gameplay, which will include the few things in your list not already present. In fact, I'd say VO might actually be the most flexible and dynamic MMO game in production there is, with the possible exception of EVE and Darkfall, which are (supposedly, in the case of Darkfall) on a par with VO when it comes to featuring or intending to feature a very dynamic world.

This will make the game rather different from most of the well-established MMORPGs, such as WoW and EQ2, which feature almost no dynamic content at all.

While what you say VO is lacking is actually already present in the game to a greater or lesser extent, I agree with the sentiment that a game featuring no dynamic content (such as a dynamic economy or territorial wars with in-game consequences) is not worth the time. Just be aware that this includes almost all MMORPGs on the market (with a few, nice exceptions) ;-)

Maybe when you come back upper case will be the new moderator. I've nominated him since I'm sure he could do better, given the same tools and instructions available to me.

At any rate, do check back.

whistler, ask firemage for my aim account and either use that channel or send an email to that and i'll explain to you what i meant by that. it's no personal attack.

edit: aka, read: "a moderator with the powers to moderate (and delete) posts & accounts".
Jan 25, 2007 LeberMac link
/me thinks the pressure is getting to Whistler! ;)
Jan 25, 2007 Whistler link
Perhaps, but I find it unlikely that a reasonable person would glean:

"a moderator with the powers to moderate (and delete) posts & accounts".

from

"genka has finally been banned from the boards and a real moderator put in place."

(emphasis mine)

Perhaps what was meant was "Moderators have been given expanded abilities, and genka has finally been banned from the boards."

However, I've gone off-topic and feel all dirty now.

Jan 25, 2007 upper case link
that's precisely what i meant. both sentences compute to the same idea to me. blame it on language issue (english is not my first language).

note also that i said "moderator" and not "whistler". i know there are more than one moderators. but it seems none were given rights (and/or the tools as you imply) to act on offending posts.

i never claimed to be reasonable (or not). but to me, a "real" forum moderator is one who can actually get rid of the particularly offending posts, warn the occasional offenders and suspend the repeat ones.

there has been, recently, a couple of particularly offending posters. while being spared myself, i've actually complained on behalf of someone else once because it was totally out of line (and actually continues to be).

note this has nothing to do with my (temporary?) absence.

edit:

[x] they're sick of getting their ass kicked in martial arts class and miss a cosy chair

i'm off to aikibudo for the remainder of the evening. when i bite the mats tonight, i'll dedicate it to you. this way you'll be comforted with the thought that someone beat me up for you.

Dudes, be happy for one thing:

A useless thread has some purpose now!

Lil'ed, I only have to say kthxbai. If you come back, I hope you're a bit more open minded.

uc, not everyone is yelled at in public. I should know, i got yelled at once! >.>
Jan 25, 2007 LeberMac link
Awww, Whistler, yer a GREAT moderator! In fact, I believe that you are the only moderator that ever really does much anymore, at least visibly to us peons.

Just be happy I'm not a moderator. Imagine the thread carnage.
Jan 25, 2007 upper case link
perhaps moldy but when i see people doing their first forays into writing get totally butt-raped on form, spelling, continuity or any other writing skills that take time and practice to get right (let alone master), it makes me cringe.

n!ng@ is damn courageous to have survived that onslaught.

if i had better skills myself at conveying ideas (ask whistler for one of my bad examples of interaction), i'd have offered my rp tutoring services long ago.

then there are those who routinely attack others for no particular reason, other perhaps than to hide their own inadequacies and lack of judgement.

just a search for genka ( http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/search?q=genka ) yields countless accounts of personal, unwarranted abuse. in genka's defense, he's unfortunately not alone.

in a shining example of whistler's action, here, one important tidbit was later said and that i've missed shows how much the tools lack at the moderators' (plural) disposal to adequately do the job.

it's my understanding that in-game guides are also moderators and when i bid my in-game farewell, i did thank them (as well as developers) for their work and support, and that includes the web site. but it's not to say that either couldn't need a bit of work. (oh man i hope the double negative isn't killing my idea...)

that onslaught

While I understand that a comparison to FreedomBird is rather harsh, I hardly think "Oh my Gods, FB has metastasized!" constitutes a butt-raping.

After that comment, n!nj@ and I had a rather pleasant little thrust & parry, which included a general decision on his part to rethink and rewrite. Not exactly uberpwnage of anyone. My harshest comments dealt with his annoying and erroneous perception of lawyers... not his writing.
