Wouldn't it be fun if Avalons were introduced as the reward of some high up mission? They'd be hard to get, and whoever did get one would instantly be marked as a target universe wide.
On the other hand, it would totally upset the balance of the game, and probably serve to upset the unlucky individuals who found themselves at the gun barrel end.
This is a poll for the opinions of the players. What's more important to you right now, dumping in new content with abandon and watching the fun/chaos ensue, or maintaining the time honored balance that keeps the game running smoothly?

I vote for letting the devs follow their path in peace.
Failing that, I think they should strive for balance. We've seen what happens when innovations are dropped in without balance - people freak out.

I agree wholeheartedly with Whistler.
Aside from that people freak out, I'm all for innovation and balance later if necessary. Balance is overrated; I think variety is more useful. Avalons as a reward for a difficult mission isn't imbalance, because as you said, they'd be a universal target. How useful are avalons (I've never used one, obviously) against 4-8 enemy fighters?

That depends on how close they are to a solid object (station, capship, roid, other ship), but this is judging from past experience and may or may not apply.
On topic: I agree wholeheartedly with roguelazer about agreeing wholeheartedly with Whistler about letting the devs do it their way in their own time, along with balance.

I agree wholeheartedly with toshiro when it comes to wholeheartedly agreeing with roguelazer about agreeing wholeheartedly with Whistler about letting the devs do it their way in their own time, along with balance.
I agree with Demonen.
Spoilsport :P.
I concur with Demonen et al
But "We" have to decide! This is "OUR" game, dammit!
Their game, our money: we decide whether they got it right after they do it (or fail to do it, as the case may be)... until then we just get to be noisy.
"I vote for letting the devs follow their path in peace." - Whistler, roguelazer, Demonen, toshiro, and whoever else posts after me.
I disagree with all y'all.
If the developers have a path, with a project roadmap already set, why have a suggestion forum?
Recent bitching by certain individuals aside, one of the cool aspects of this game is the fact that suggestions actually get implemented.
As far as the topic of the thread, I vote for unbalance. But, I'd rather see the dev's own agenda be fulfilled first, like: Complete the deliverator and mission editor, finish the capship interface, and the minor tweaks and stuffs.

We don't disagree there, Lex.
The question was not "predetermined roadmap vs. incorporating suggestions", but "Balance vs. Innovation". That's what I was speaking to. To clarify: They should continue to innovate their brains out, and the innovations should be incorporated in a manner which respects balanced game-play.
In the case of avalons, they were unbalancing to the point that they were removed from the game until they could be better incorporated. I think that was an excellent idea, though I do look forward to their return.

Also, for the record (and those who didn't read as much elsewhere), I am in the process of bringing Avalon Torpedoes back. But some work needs to be done first, to make sure it's possible for capships to defend against them, and to deal with the prospect of station-nuking. Not a lot of point in bringing them back if I just have to yank them out again. But they are in-process.
See?! Balance!
As for the station nuking, whomever hits a station with anything large enough to shake up their gravitational space-anchor that provides the incredible shielding they have, would get a massive standing hit?
Just put turrets on stations and make them target the Avalons? :D

Wait. Wasn't this locked? Oh, Inc. unlocked it.
Yay for balance! Inc stop reading the forums and go un-break stuff. :)

(This was never locked. No reason to.)
OK, that settles it, I've been on WAY too many anti-cold remedies.
Perhaps I should knock off the double-dosing on DayQuil...
