bind strafing to mouse?

I hate trackballs, but I love my trackpad. I was awkward when I first started using a trackpad, but I don't like taking a mouse with me everywhere so I got used to it pretty quickly. Now I hate using a mouse. When I do play VO (in the past, and I will again) I use my left hand on the trackpad, u/i/o/j/k/l etc. to thrust/roll.

I could get used to joysticks if I buy them someday, but again I don't want to carry them with me (I have an iBook G4, my stupid little brother bought a MacBook yesterday, the smeghead. His monitor is smaller (13 vs. 14) but the resolution's so good more fits on his screen). I also beat Halo on Legendary Mode with the same trackpad setup (this is when I got used to it; Legendary Mode isn't so much a test of skill as it is endurance, except in a couple battles). The only problem I have using the trackpad (especially in Halo) is if my right palm brushes it slightly, suddenly I don't know where I'm facing. So this configuration forces me to have good hand posture for typing.

I used a dancepad once to do Need for Speed Underground. It actually kind of worked ok. As long as I held down the gas and only worried about turning left and right, I did ok. It was when I needed either brake that I had trouble. There was no R1 button, so I was limited to the regular brake, and I couldn't use my nitrous because no L1. Also, no drag racing: I was stuck with an automatic because no L2/R2. It would be cool to have a VO event where everyone must use a dancepad (can you connect those to a PC?).
