About Pirating...

May 25, 2003 technocrat link
For all of you who complain about pirating, let me tell you a story.

I was in my Marauder today and out of nowhere a pirate from the Red team killed me within 30 secs (I was slowing down to recharge my battery so I could jump to s15)...I never fired a shot. I know boohoo, woe is me, but here is my point:

I respawned, grabbed my promy, came back to s10 and kicked his @$$. I believe pirating is a crucial part of the game and there is no better feeling than getting even. Getting pirated is annoying (and expensive), but if we only had controlled fights this game would be boring. So all of you control freaks who want to regulate who does what...back off. And you pirates, BRING IT ON...

;)

I think he's talking about me...if not, here's a story from the other side (almost identical).

I fly into 10 looking for someone who's been talking some trash and spot someone (else) cruising through with a bounty of about 400. Not a whole lot, but more than most bots/players are worth at any given time. I sneak up behind him and unload. It turns out to be a cargo ship so I take my loot and bounce. Unfortunately, I only had 10 cargo slots....so I went back. When I went back for the remaining cargo, I got owned by the rightful owner. I was surprised and had a good laugh about it. I thought "good job!" to whoever pulled it off.

Now....the problem is that CERTAIN gold players (numbering 3 by the end and they know who they are) came after me at least an hour after the incident (probably more) saying that I had to pay for it. I kind of fought them once for fun, but they didn't go away. They insisted on parking outside the station...waiting. Thats pushing it. I appreciate protecting your teamates from piracy, but if the pirated person has ALREADY gotten their revenge and is PERFECTLY CAPABLE of defending themselves....why do you need 3 man death squads going after people? It just looks like gold pushing around the rest of us because they always outnumber the other nations' active players. Piracy is part of the game people. As long as its not out of hand, don't hunt down people like dogs. Its not fair, and its not fun.

Proudly,

Heheh you don't get it 0xD. The IDEA is to "teach" you to NOT attempt to pirate gold members. IE you do it and you're gonna get chased around and probably camped on.

I would agree. In my humble opinion, you can't call it cheap unless it's unrealistic... and if four golds want to sit outside a station waiting for you to come out... well... they can do that... The logic behind it doesn't need to be sound. If you kill a member of the other team, I think they can attempt to hold you accountable for whatever means they deem necessary. It's just one more thing to factor into your decision to kill somebody :)

Rolan you obvoiusly didn't read the first two posts very carefully. We both had fun. We are equal matches. He got his revenge and I'm not gonna pirate that guy again.

Hunting people over an hour later over something that has already been settled isn't cool. Especially when its over and over again for the same incident. Not every nation's vets have the time to sit there outside of a station and threaten people.

My issue isn't the revenge itself but the overkill. If a person kills someone, kill them. I have no problems with that. Kill them twice maybe if it was messed up. Going after them over and over and over is where it becomes stupid. If I hit you with a snowball would you run me down with a car?

Again I bring up that gold tends to be very...authoritive in this game. You guys have a very unfair, snowballed advantage and you are abusing it. Don't trample other people's gameplay if they aren't causing problems. There's a difference between constantly pirating helpless golds and occasional agression that makes the game interesting.

I definitely think there's a place for piracy in this game. It's important for pirates to remember, however, that people have as much right to role play a pirate hunter as they do to play a pirate.

Asp, I think the major problem is when it's relatively new players that are getting hunted. It makes the game suck for them. If you want to get a team of vets together to repeatedly kill some one go after people that are roughly the same skill level as you.
Furball, you don't do it to 'teach' you just like killing people, you're one of the biggest griefers in the game. I've watched you repeatedly hunt down a newb with 4 pks claiming that he was "repaeatedly killing gold noobs." Not only that but you lied to a bunch of golds so that they would help you.
Yes getting pirated sucks, and might even turn a few noobs away from the game. But killing the same noob over 10 times with a gang of vets is really dumb and is sure to turn many more people away from the game.
My point is save 'hunts' and vet gangs for better players, don't do it to noobs, or even people who are slightly above noobs.

Unless they've done something really outrageous I'll only kill the pirate once or twice. Usually pirates pick on people who can't put up a defense against them. If the pirate can't put up a defense against me they're just experiencing what they did to someone else. I won't kill them more than a couple of times for each act of piracy they've commited. That's how the line is drawn between playing one's role in the game and griefing or over-killing. Confirmed griefers, IMO, can be hunted relentlessly. Often times multi-national groups of players have banded together to give griefers what's coming to them.

Well... I had a bit of a scrap yesterday, as a lot of you may remember :D

However, it was just a teensy bit unfair. I enjoyed the SIX ON ONE odds, hell, they made me fly better, but the fact that you mined the station at the same time crossed the line. That was absolutely despicable.

Its not even as if Im a griefer, Im only a pirate. If I happen to spy a newbie piloting a centaur, I WILL strike. But after that, they can fly where the hell they please without me on their back. The ones that dont whinge even get some cash to go some way towards a new ship.

I understand that both Gold and Blue have their reasons for wanting to blow me up- Im just saying that there are better ways of going about it than that.

Asp is a cool guy, as in he pirate-hunts (BOOOOOOO) but he does it the RIGHT way. As in he doesnt get the entire gold and blue military on me, he fights me man-to-man. Sometimes he beats me, sometimes I beat him. But its all in the spirit of the game... what happened yesterday wasnt.

The person leading yesterday's events is a complete hypocrite. He is easily as big a pirate as me, and yet he still convinced the online community to single me, and one or two other reds out.

What I ask is common sense. Keep Vendetta a game. Dont believe every word that is said to you. Dont discount someone's word because of their reputation for piracy in the game. And for crying out loud, STOP MINING THE DAMN STATIONS!

would this be the same person that placed about 60 mines all around station 14, saying he was hunting Icarus, while Icarus was off in s7? O.o

I can vouch for Fur being a big griefer....

And yes, I was surprised at Sam II getting all self-righteous about me.

I had an experience being hunted down a long time ago, back in 3.1 I think it was. I was going my way, trading, when I happened upon some people in one of the sectors. Being a noob and not knowing better, I caught them by surprise and killed them. I wasn't even pirating, and one of them was camping. Anyway, he came out of the station and killed me. Booohooo. Poor me. Anyway, I came out of sec 3 and suddenly found there was tons of people hunting for me, no reason other than I made a mistake. It totaly ruined the game for me, and I have only come back recently. My point is, not only can it happen, but it does. Take it from me.

Mining happens a lot... It's a shame, but it'll be fixed once the devs come up with an anti-station-mining-shield. (autodetonate any mines within 300m?) Until then, we just gotta live with it. And Arolte? You can leave sector 18 alone now.

PS: I agree to the FB/Rolan is a griefer thing too.
