GUIDES DELETING POSTS WITHOUT EXPLANATION

This is a pretty [EDITED] thing to do, especially when it's only one sided. If you're not going to read the whole [EDITED] thread and remove ALL the offensive stuff, don't bother. We don't need half assed forum moderators.

I did a quick trace on the edited content and support the action.

Mmm, sounds like tumble has his panties in a bunch again. Don't worry, you can reveal my alts. Only person who seems to care about anyone's alts too much is you.
Oct 29, 2006 FiReMaGe link
From the Rules of Conduct:
People who violate the rules of the boards may or may not receive any warning before any action is taken.
I gladly gave a response on request though. Sometimes I wish I could send a private message on the forums; would make things easier.

Anyway, the offensive stuff was just the extra amount of content that put it way over the needed amount to delete the post.

Yes. PM'ing on these boards would be awesome. As well as a new forum for Player Content. And a decent search function. And hierarchal access levels. And an e-newsletter, or even better a podcast with Michael discussing hive behavior. Or hilarious uploaded videos of Andy deleting the player database. ("FRAK!")

I'd suggest an off-the-shelf forum board but I'm sure the folks at Guild have a reason for keeping this really good home-built one. >:)

Guides have a responsibility to the rest of the people on this forum as well, and keeping it PG-13 is kinda one of those responsibilities.

Some people REALLY care about keeping their alts secret. Some (like me) do not. Public outing of alts is generally frowned upon, and it should be expected that if you post that kind of thing, that it will be edited.

I care about keeping my alts secret!

OPS.

(Actually, if you care about your keeping your alts secret. KEEP IT SECRET! Not so easy, especially when egos get in the way. If you get outed, usually that's because you have (a) annoy enough people to have a vendetta against you (b) is plain sloppy (c) is clearly mixing up your RPing with RLing*)

* is there even such a word?

Hmmm, sounds like moldy is sticking his nose in again with nothing at all to contribute, why am I not surprised?

Again I say, the post in question was reposted without the supposed "insult" and still edited by a moderator, why was that? It was then reposted a THIRD time and then a FORTH (by someone else) and has yet to be changed.

Why can't you manage to apply your rules consistently? Why is one post termed an "insult" while another obvious insult is left alone? What is wrong with you? I know you're not perfect, but I also know you're not stupid. Such blatently inconsistent "application" of the EULA rules are obviously deliberate.

Tumble's right. Edit every single one of his bad posts >_>

I think tumble is making much ado about nothing. Don't say things that are controversial and mean spirited and they won't get edited. There's my contribution.
Oct 29, 2006 Dr. Lecter link
Yeah. You should definitely avoid any tinge of controversy when posting.

In totally unrelated news, all previous posts in the "Bugs" forum have been deleted and the forum retitled "Happy-Happy Joy-Joy." Bugs do not exist. To suggest their existence is impermissible controversy.

YES! EXACTLY!

This makes me wonder what the standards are (if there are any) for being a guide.
Can a dev post the criteria for the selection and expected behaviour for guides?
I would really like to know and I think this player community would too.

We've been over this ground. No more 'what are the rules for Guides' shit--the search function's not that goddamn bad.

People, can't we just be civil here. This is a GAME! VO does not equal RL no matter how fascinating and wonderful it may be. I fully support the Guides monitoring content, especially given the number of younger players present. I think the last thing this community needs is to lose under players over vulgar language in a forum or in-game.

I'm also assuming that tumble is going to tell me to shut up and go away. In preparation for any possible onslaught of poorly conceived insults I shall post the following response/appeal to tumble's rational side:

Tumblemonster, you are a loyal and valued member of the VO community. However, your choice of words and certain subject matter tends to lead to issues within our humble community. I do not wish to see an experienced player, such as yourself, banned or ostracized from this community for certain actions you may choose to pursue. As such, I humbly offer the following advice: Pick your battles with the system more carefully. You could have a lot of sway in this community if you stepped back and decided to address more productive issues than the ones that have caused so much controversy in the past. I am certain that you could do all of this in a respectable tone that facilitates meaningful conversation. My dear friend, please take a few deep breaths.

Dr Lecter. Thank you. You are the first person I've seen who said the search function isn't that bad. I thought I was going crazy.

Yeah, there's a good way to keep me from responding, patronize me. That sure makes your appeal to my "rational" side really seem sincere. (/sarcasm)

Shut up and go away.

Consistent application of rules would be nice, but is not an acceptable arguement for/against specific instances. It is better to enforce rules inconsistently, than not at all. It would be unreasonable to expect guides to do a perfect job. Mistakes will be made, and making mistakes is part of a proccess of improvement. Instead of you calling moderators down for slamming you once, you should be thanking them for all the times they didn't slam you when they should have. Poster will continue to test the limits of the forums, and moderators will continue to juggle the issues of what should be allowed and what shouldn't. If inconsistency is your best argument, then please learn to keep your post more consistently within acceptable standards.

Just to clarify a little to everyone. Our guides go pretty far out of their way to use a light hand on this messageboard. They try to only take action on those posts that seem really mean-spirited or those that threaten to escalate into some sort of flamewar. Individual judgement is applied in these decisions, and judgements differ depending on the guide. I don't object to [ed] FiReMaGe's [/ed-RR] decisions in this matter.

The various rules that have been posted exist as a framework to allow enforcement in situations that seem to really merit it. If you're concerned about what rules to follow on here, pay the most attention to the two words seen on entrance: Be Nice. If you follow that rule, you won't have anything to worry about. If you cross that threshold and want to complain about others not being impinged upon as you are.. too bad, that's up to the guides and their judgement in sorting out the various shades of grey without being too heavy-handed (and they do a good job of a complex balancing act). Once you're over that threshold, you're clearly missing the point.

If you want to have some sort of guild-related flamewar, take it to your own boards. Ours is not meant for that.

Tumblemonster, if you have any other problems you want to discuss, you are welcome to email your concerns to me. In the meantime, I'm locking this thread, as it does not seem to have any further value.
