fasten, two words: go home.
and by that, i mean itani space.
grey space is inherently dangerous for many reasons:
- it has meaner bots
- it has evil pirates. so evil that they had to be stripped of any faction status.
- it's unmonitored space.
unmonitored means that there are no actual rules of engagement and that killing anyone in there bares no consequences other than doing so within station no-fire zones.
now, if you think lecter has been harassing you, i'm quite glad for you you've never meant kixkizzle.
when i began two years ago, kix would gank me like hell and blew me to smithereens before i even had a chance to see where the fire would come from.
and i dont recall kix ever giving me 50k for it. consider it a prized gift.
so, get off your high horses, go back to monitored space for a while and get some experience.
if all else fails, by golly, just run away. it's unfortunately too easy in this game. besides, this universe is vast enough for you not to run into him (or anyone for that matter) all the time.
as far as noob killing goes, some people are just plain pk whores. some have actual tallent but somehow feel the uncontrollable desire to just go around mowing away at easy targets for the sole purpose of upping their pk count. stupid. idiotic. childish. irresponsible. plainly being ass holes. but if that's what they want to be remembered for, let them.
though... in this particular case, fasten, your foul mouth and general attitude and hard-headed obsession of roaming grey space is probably a catalyst for your being a designated target.
so cool off, try to have fun and try to get a hang for how things are done and *then* risk again in grey space when you think you can handle it. you'll see how that is worth it at that point.

Heh, this brings out memories....
Hopping along in my free bus thru grey space and a few secs later waking up in my home station. Fun times. Pirates had a real ball.
My archnemesis Yodaofborg killed my newbie bus numerous times and the list goes on and on: Shape, Tramshed, Gavan, Martin, Lonestar... at one point i thought the whole BLAK guild was out to get me.
Silly newbie, only thing i could do, VO combat wise, was to turbo/run in a straight line or shoot missiles at my foes. I didnt know how to dodge or even aim energy guns.
After some time spent in nation space working on my levels and learning the basics of VO combat i ventured in grey again. They got me again. Not as easy as when i was in my free bus or atlas but still... pvp skill of those guys was from my newbie point of view - unbelieveable.
So.... there is one old saying... if you cant beat them, join them.:)
After some time and lots of my ships going boom, my archnemesis Yodaofborg became my combat tutor.
The rest is history.

*waves at Bojan and remembers an IDF blocade breaking at Verasi C2 with 0*
But this is another case of a tree hiding the forest: this game simply lacks newbies to kill :P

Good times my old friend Sun Tzu, good times. :)
Oooh, look, it's back in General forums!
Is it more important to have some players beat up on Lecter to give him a taste, or is it more important to "Give n00bs something to do in their home systems?"
Oh, and you all will be brought into the Fold. The Lady Serco has forseen it.

I'd like to point out that Fasten is not (being Itani) the product of my Dau hunting trips. He's annoyed that he got killed in Sedina. Go figger.
As for Miharu's penalty system, it's probably a wise temporary band-aid. I currently find taking a bus into systems that have me as KOS to hunt down someone defended by station guards and strike forces to be more entertaining than, say, mining when there's nobody else in B8. I'm sure as hell not trading or stockpiling anything again soon. But if it were erroding my combat skill, I'd at least stop using my main character for it.

I'll think about the combat-penalty system. Obviously, my biggest concern is the exploitability/annoyance angle that people used to use, but Miharu's solution might be viable. Anyway, Sarah also suggested preventing people from homing with a given faction until they reach a "like" standing, which might keep newbies from staying in grayspace until they were a little more experienced. I'm also looking at changing around the first few levels to keep characters within their capitol starting sector until they hit level 2 or some such. Part of that also fitting in with the desire to do away with friendly fire (which mainly exists for the purposes of protecting newbies). When I have some design on the subject, I'll post to Suggestions for feedback. Anyway, I think we've about wrapped this up for now, so I'm locking.
