Purchasing 'gift' accounts

can we? please?

I want a way to purchase a time block for a friend's account as a one-time deal rather than recurring subscription.

preferably soon.

Buy it, then cancel it. If they wish to renew on their own, they may provide a new funding source.

Why cancel it? Couldn't you just buy them a month with the pay by cash option? Its only a little bit more expensive. I use hyperwallet and its pretty quick.

Due to the added expense and steps, I have never used anything but the credit card option, so I don't know about pay by cash. However, canceling it after purchace only prevents reoccuring charges, and in no way affects their ability to continue with the account if they like it.

I have done this a few times, just set it up, pay the account, once its approved click cancel, it just stops it from recurring. No affect on the actual account, then when its time to renew, it will let them know and they can enter their own information.

*wonders if she should be alarmed that she agrees with Doc.... :P

What I think would be cool would be the ability to purchase a month of time, but receive it as a serial code, like you would get with the boxed version.

For the moment the buy-and-cancel thing is the best solution. It's possible for us to generate codes, and that would be a cool thing to do.. at some point. Probably not in the immediate future.

Well reason I was wondering is that they have already established their free trial account, and I don't have their password. It would be really nice if there was an option for me to purchase a month or three for another account using my own billing info.

It would also make it easier to add on more time blocks after the already paid one expires, again without needing to deal with logging into their account, changing/exchanging passwords, etc.

Which brings up another question: does guild software retain and associate credit card or billing information with the account after billing is cancelled?

Once an account is cancelled, the billing information is wiped from our database. There's still technically a record, on our transaction provider's database/logs, but nothing internal to our own software or accessible by the user.

incarnate, when (/if) you ever get to implement a donation system, make sure (/ it'd be nice) to have the possibility to "donate time" (say, a month) to another user without having momentarily control that account (aka, login into it).

eg, sort of a gift card system where you can send time to a friend.

heck, i could use that to settle a bet i have with leebs! his damn tequila bottle was returned to me as undeliverable!
