Server IP..
Yeah.. i was wondering what teh server for the game was, so i can check my packet loss rate... But.. i forgot the IP. I used to know it, but not anymore... anyone know it?
i think one of the ips is 207.67.51.37 i forget the others
204.29.203.105 is the main game server
207.67.51.37 is one of the update servers
207.67.51.37 is one of the update servers
thank you rogue!
wait.. are you SURE about teh game server? it and the update server are on 2 differerent networks..
Yes, they are indeed on different networks.
The first one is majikthise.guildsoftware.com (yes, I can spell that without aid).
The second one is update.guildsoftware.com[1]
The second one is update.guildsoftware.com[1]
Actually, update.guildsoftware.com is a round-robin between both 204.29.203.105 and 207.67.51.37, to split the update traffic across both networks.
Urza, if you ever forget about the first one, think about the discusison between majikthise and deepthought in THHGTTG
=)

Hey Incarnate, what's the point of having a round-robin for the update server. I mean, when 3.2 came out, it got lots of traffic. But one would think that most of the time the game server would have more traffic.
[EDIT]
Ignore this question. The game HAS TO BE one server. Oops. I'll edit it to say something useful later...

heheh.. cool. i ofund out what i needed to know. i got a program so i can ping the server without playign vendetta. And it lets me trace my packet's routs to the server
Erm... Urza... It comes with the Mac... It's called Terminal. :P Or Network Tools (or something like that)...
Urza: Do you mean PING (as in the program ping)?
yea I was gonna say...you can do this with built in apps. Like Terminal or Network Utility.
/me shrugs
Apple never tells us what they give us.. i try to refrain from playing with apps i dont know about.

Actually i always thought the beauty of this game was that it DOESN'T have to be one game server. The way I see it is that since each sector is pretty much independent, each sector could (if needed) be run on its own server. The only traffic that would have to pass between them is when someone jumps or when someone sends a message. Of course there would be one "entry" server that serves up characters and current locations, but then one could easily be passed on to the appropriate sector server for wherever you left your character. Makes scalability almost infinate.
Yeah, but the devs are planning on having thousands of sectors...
You don't HAVE to put each sector on its own server...you could break it into super sectors or whatever. Busy sectors maybe get split off to backup servers when needed. What I'm saying is that the way this game is designed, thousands of sectors with a hundred players each is not going to be problematic (in theory). Good job devs.
Well, seeming as this one server handles almost 20 sectors very well, maybe 20 sectors to a server, if the load gets to big mabey have it be 10...
You'd get pretty bad chatlag and junk with that setup, though. And longer loading times when warping between "supersectors". :( Well, the devs DID say that there would probably be about 4-6 servers by the time this game approaches a finished state, so whatever.
