1. I was a little kid, I was bored, and I knew a good amount about computers. I was probably in around 3rd or 4th grade, when the 601 was pretty new. I forget exactly what had just come out then...

2. My *own* first computer? It was a Performa 550... Loved that thing...
A. Oof... Around 5th grade, maybe?
B. I think it was mostly card games...

3. Waaay too many. Currently sitting in my room I have:
1. Mac 512Ke
2. Mac Plus
3. Mac Classic II
4. Mac Classic
5. Mac LC
6. Mac LC III

A. Ohhh yeah...

9. Friends? What are those? :P Meh... I didn't really have any friends outside of school back then...

10. I like Vendetta... I waste time playing it instead of doing other stuff... Like cleaning my room... :P

11. The computer gaming industry is going up... More powerful hardware... The computer of tommorrow (I'll say about a year from now) will probably be a 64-bit machine with a gig or so of ram... A few years from then we may be seeing solid-state hard drives and the like...

12. Mua ha ha... I'll take the Earth Simulator in Japan... >:D

13. Anything and everything...

well for those wondering this is my answers.

1. When and what got you interested in computer games? How old were you and what was new on the market at the time?

A: So, what really got me hooked was Man-hole By BrouderBund or somthing like that, It was later called Cyan and that made Myst. I was really really young when i first started playing manhole, maybe 3-4? Soon after that i started playing Prince of Persia at age 5. And i was scared for my life! HE WAS GETTING CHOPPED IN HALF! ek. But after a year of attemps I won. HA! Next on my list, which got me hooked in to FPS was when i was 5-7, Marathon 2. I first played this at a place my mom worked, i saw some people playing over LAN, and i asked if i could play... they said yes and I was hooked for life after my first frag.

2. What was your first computer?
My first computer was a old Preforma, PPC somthing, A beige computer.
A. When did you get it?
I kinda, aquired it during the 3rd grade, my dad used every thing through my room and my room had a phone line (no idea why) so the computer lived in my room ever since.
B. What games did you play on it?
DOOM, and marathon1,2. and the Palace, Myst. (over and over)

3. What different computers have you owned in the past?
I have had 4, my first was the PPC thingy, I didnt know that much about him untill i sacrificed him to my hamer when it stoped working and i had bought a new computer, and i wanted to see how it worked (that was me being dumb). My next computer which i bought was a second generation G3 Laptop, the ones with good screans not the shit ones that the mouse had a blurry trail on.
Unfortinantly that got stolen at school from right under my nose. It sucked ass. After that(you see my knownlage of comps growing) Was a PPC G4 tower 450Mghz with a Rage128 card and i upgraded him to about 1.24 Gigs of ram, my baby! OH YEAH. I still have that baby in my closet right now. He is dead, im going to wipe him soon. And finally i have the baby that im on right now, second gen G4TiBook, 667Mghz 512 Ram and some horrible graphics card.
4. What is your current computer ?
See above.
5. When did you first use the internet to play a game? What service did you use?
I guess the Palace counts for a internet game, one of the first MMO games. this was in first grade, this is no place for a first grader to be alone with people, I had quite the vocabulary after my first run, My parents locked it, so i learned to use and make kiddy scripts to get in.

A. Did it lag like mad?
I really cant say that it did, i guess it did i was on like 28.8k modem *shudder*

6. What was your favorite computergame design of all time? Functionality included.

I would have to say marathon series, Best games ever, the plot is great, the game is hard, and if you read it you can win, this was quite the conecpt to me as a young child in 1st grade. I just was thinking "words? i dont need you! i go shoot thing with caped with 2 magnums! HAHAHAHA... where are all the aliens?"

7. When you got a computer game for this first time, how did this affect how you worked and how your daily life?

It helped me get away from the TV, but not outdoors, i liek teh 0u7d00rz. yeah.

A. Did you really work after you got the game?
I worked before i got R6 and figured out how to use game ranger. "WHY WONT YOU SEND ME MY DAMN PASSWORD! AHHHH!" after i got that password i failed sixth grade. and that and all of EV... mmmm.... EV....

B. Now that you look back at it, is the game really that good?
yeah, twas that good. Really really good. I think it was some of the best times of my life before those reportcards came home.

8. Was the first computer you owned for work or home use?
That beige thing.

A. did you have games on it?
Doom, Marathon 1-2, Lunacus, Myst, Prince of Persia, EV, Some games that came with it, The Palace, and YDKJ.

9. When you first got your computer game, did your friends look highly upon you? How did you feel about having this game?

Yes, i was their god.

10. How did the very recent new addition to Vendetta affect you in the computer gaming world?

New stuff, AWESOME... Non-balance, not awesome. NEW SECTORS AWESOME FORGET HIGH SCHOOL! wait...

11. Where do you think the computer gaming industry is going? What do you think the computer of tomorrow might be?

I think we are heading to a team based MMO world, though there will be really good single player games out there. Such as DX2: The Invisible war.

12. What would your dream computer be? What OS would it have?

I truly dont know.

13. What games would it run?

What ever the hell i put on it! thats what its suppose to do...

14. Do you think MMORPG?s are a stepping stone in global communication?

Personaly i think its getting people to talk more, BUT it really is keeping some people inside tolong and living lives they really dont. This could be quite dangerous so i do have mixed feeling about it.

A.If so, why?
Some people could become really really edgey when away from their games. Ive seen some people recover harshly from EverCrack.

B. If not, why not?
-
15. How does the news of a new and better computer games affect you?

My loins tingle with excitment. Wait. no... let me try again. I feel like, wow, my computer games are the sucks.

A. Do you usally wait for a few months to get it, or do you buy it right away?
I usally have to get my new game fix right away, so i try and work money to get it ASAP.
16. Have you made any computer games yourself?
heh, uh none that you would have cared about.
A. What are some of the games you've made?
Some wierd game show thing with movies and lots and lots of crappy people death and anime styly booming (NOT STICKS!)
B. Were they fun?
no. Not at all, anything else you'd like to ask me?

thats my interview of myself.

I did work, but it lessened. In stead of me working for 1 hour, I worked for half an hour.

10. How did the very recent new addition to Vendetta affect you in the computer gaming world?

EEEK edits! Damm, now i'll have to redo it!

1. When and what got you interested in computer games? How old were you and what was new on the market at the time?

I must have been about 3, we had this massively old atari console
and i think it was pong that got me hooked.

2. What was your first computer?

Apricot F1

It was the model before the one shown above though 8088 processor
512k ram, INFRARED KEYBOARD!!!

A. When did you get it?

When my dad got his new 8088 (10Mhz! - Zoom!!!)

B. What games did you play on it?

Nethack clone and some textmode startrek game, i loved those things!

3. What different computers have you owned in the past?

Loved the whole spectrum seriese had a 48k, 64k and a 128k (+2a i think, had a massively fast 720k floppy drive on it, WOOT! no more tapes)

Other than that all x86 based: 8086, 286, 386(sx25), 486(dx2), p75, p233mmx, pII400, pIII600, Athlon tbird 1.3.

4. What is your current computer ?

Dual Athlon MP 2000

5. When did you first use the internet to play a game? What service did you use?

It was BT's wireplay service, i was quite a latecomer, it worked quite well over a 28k8 though. I think i used to play duke nukem 3d quite a lot on that.

A. Did it lag like mad?

on a 28k? actually it was surprisingly good! BUT, wireplay was a dedicated service.

6. What was your favorite computergame design of all time? Functionality included.

Actually, quake had to do it for me, it was genuinely a technical marvel at the time although my dx2/66 couldn't quite hack it! I remember the first quake test, my jaw hit the floor.

7. When you got a computer game for this first time, how did this affect how you worked and how your daily life?

A. Did you really work after you got the game?

Yeah NetHack kept me ammused for a LONG time, but computer games never took my whole life over, the only time I ever played games all day was when i was working for Interplay as a tester. Used to get to the office at 9, play games all the way through till 6, come home, eat, play games... And the best bit? I got paid £16k a year for that!

B. Now that you look back at it, is the game really that good?

What NetHack? Its a classic, i still play it today!

8. Was the first computer you owned for work or home use?
Both
A. did you have games on it?
Yep, Nethack and a startrek clone.

9. When you first got your computer game, did your friends look highly upon you? How did you feel about having this game?

Nobody understood, they were all too wrapped up in their lame c64's =) (/ot: Ohh, damm, im gonna get slammed for that)

10. How did the very recent new addition to Vendetta affect you in the computer gaming world?

What 3.2? Like an earthquake!!! =) Seriously? Not that much, its a good game though.

11. Where do you think the computer gaming industry is going? What do you think the computer of tomorrow might be?

As the world gets broadband connected, you'll see less and less "single player" menu entries on games. I think it'll get to a point that people will be plugging in consoles to broadband points with the same kind of though given to plugging the console into the power point.

12. What would your dream computer be? What OS would it have?

Yeah, made my mind up now, IBM z/990 - 32 Processor Config, 256Gb ram ;-)

13. What games would it run?

All of them, i'd just emulate whatever i needed!

14. Do you think MMORPG’s are a stepping stone in global communication?
A.If so, why?
na

B. If not, why not?

The stepping stones of global communication would be more in line with the internet. I do think, however, that MMO games will create large friendly communities, i've made many friends on vendetta, some of which i've met or will be meeting soon in RealLife(tm).

15. How does the news of a new and better computer games affect you?

Doesn't at all, you can have flashy graphics, awesome sound, and all the special effects under the sun but it doesnt mean a thing if the game doesn't play well. Some of todays most killer games have been around for years, thats not a bad thing, i still play a lot of textmode games.....

A. Do you usally wait for a few months to get it, or do you buy it right away?

I usually wait a few months, yet again, most of the games I play these days have been developed 'Open Source' which i prefer since they seem much much more thought out and playable.

16. Have you made any computer games yourself?

Yeah, i've written a few games, mostly top down rts games.

A. What are some of the games you've made?

None of them actually reached any kind of releasable form but i think my favorite was a group project at college me any a few mates wrote a wolfenstein 3d clone from scratch, designed as a network copoerative / deathmatch game. That was my first delve into network coding as well, IPX/SPX confused the hell outta me, i just stuck to the raytracing engine ;-)

B. Were they fun?

When you've been playing it for 4 hrs straight and are still enjoying it? What do you think?!? =)

Yeah, the game was hilarious, everyone started playing it, even though it was nowhere near finished (no menu, etc all command line driven). The best bit was watching a load of freshers in the it lab till 9pm playing this game that we'd made.... a really good feeling.

Hi all!
I'm also an old one :-D

1.- I was 13-14. The Spectrum 16 was the bleeding edge. The first game i played... space invaders may be

2.- The school purchased some spectrum 16 to start a computer class.
A. Two years later (1986) i bought an AMSTRAD CPC 464 (It still runs like the first day!)
B. Everything was a game!

3-4.- My good old CPC464, about 8 years later a 486-50, since 1998 a K6-II. I have all those plus some other old ones i found in the garbage (MSX, SPECTRUM 128)

5.- May be 1993. A MUD named Aurora (It still is running! try telnet://aurora.etsiig.uniovi.es:3000)
A.-YESSSSSS (Internet download speed was 0,01 KB/s, the whole university was connected through a 64 kbps ISDN)

6.- May be Elite II:Frontier. Also Civilization is damm good. And the XWing series, and DOOM, and The Day of the Tentacle, and ...

7.-
A.- Yes, played a lot, but i worked as before (not a lot)
B.- Yes, it is good, but buggy (Elite).

8.- See question 2, I used the 464 for work a lot (running my own programs :-D)

9.- Nothing special. We used to play together

10.- I play sometimes. I do not have much time to play now.

11.- I don't like most modern games. Lack of imagination and playability. I don't see it will be better in a while.

12.- HAL-9000. Linux-HAL 90.0.x
(Dave....., Dave...... what are you doing, Dave?.....
Damm, every time I switch off the power happens this! :-DDD)

13.- Chess, the black monolith, ...

15.- I rarely buy games now. They tend to be bad and expensive, plus I don't have time to amuse them, but I still buy old games that are good (Homeworld was the last one, 1 year ago)

16.- Yes! And the most fun was coding them!

1. When and what got you interested in computer games? How old were you and what was new on the market at the time?

I first saw a computer game at the Lawrence Livermore Lab in Livermore CA. I think it was in the mid 1970's, I was probably about 8. It was a green on black vector graphics game most closely related to "Asteroids" and involved a little triangle ship trying to navigate on a tiny screen against the effects of gravity from a little dot sun, and I think the occasional UFO. It was mounted in a wood case. There were no video games on the market that I am aware of.

2. What was your first computer?
It was a Timex-Sinclaire ZX80 that we built from a kit.

A. When did you get it?
I'm pretty sure it was the Summer of 1980

B. What games did you play on it?
I can't recall too many names as most were written in basic or modified "machine language" and had to be typed in manually from newsletters. I do recall "Bomber Overhead" which was essentially a guessing/battleship game made up of text and special characters. There were also some randomized text-base adventures that were kind of fun because you could alter them. I should note here that once you entered the games by hand, you could save them to a tape recorder via the microphone jack.

3. What different computers have you owned in the past?
I've had the ZX80, ZX81, Spectrum, Atari 520ST, Atari 1040ST, Apple IIe and C, an old Compaq "luggable", an IBM XT,"clone" "clone" ATs, Pentiums I-IV. I'm sure I've forgotten some.

4. What is your current computer ?
I have a P4, 2Ghz, etc.

5. When did you first use the internet to play a game? What service did you use?
A. Did it lag like mad?

I think the first games I actually played on the internet were message-based chess or role-playing games where lag didn't apply. Later there were text-based trivia games where lag might have applied, but I don't think there were enough people on to impact bandwidth much. Lag didn't really come into play until DOOM.

6. What was your favorite computergame design of all time? Functionality included.

I loved Interstate '76. I had the 70's music and feel down, plus the Cars Wars style game play and car design were designed more like a simple simulator rather than a game. Graphics were awesome for the time. It made good use of the steering wheel but you could play without. I still ove that game. They ruined it with Interstate '81.

7. When you got a computer game for this first time, how did this affect how you worked and how your daily life?

It didn't alter my work because I was a student then, but I will mention that my teachers initially would not accept work printed from my dot-matrix printer. It had to be off of a typewriter. I can't say I blame them, the font was horrible.

A. Did you really work after you got the game?

Although the games were primitive,I wasted tons of time.

B. Now that you look back at it, is the game really that good?

No they were truly primitive compared to what we have now, but remember that the games were still totally new.

8. Was the first computer you owned for work or home use?
A. did you have games on it?

I think I covered this. I think the first computer I had on the job was an XT

9. When you first got your computer game, did your friends look highly upon you? How did you feel about having this game?
My friends thought it was very cool, though they had a really hard time mastering them due to the interface and learning curve.

10. How did the very recent new addition to Vendetta affect you in the computer gaming world?
I haven't purchased a new game in a long time. I've been hooked on beta testing new games rather than purchasing completed ones. I'm totally out of the elite gaming experience these days.

11. Where do you think the computer gaming industry is going? What do you think the computer of tomorrow might be?
I think the gaming industry is heading toward even more realistic graphics, and better interfaces including game-specific keyboards and controls. I think VR will come back in a cheaper form. The computer of tomorrow will have to have the capability to keep up with this - more processing, memory, better graphics cards.

12. What would your dream computer be? What OS would it have?
I'm not really hooked on one OS. They all annoy me because they have become less tweakable and idiot-proofed. I like to tinker. Faster and more stable, thats all I ask.

13. What games would it run?
ALL of them.

14. Do you think MMORPG’s are a stepping stone in global communication?
A.If so, why?
Sure. Even on Vendetta we are multi-national. I can't say that world peace gets addressed on a daily basis, but sometimes just knowing that we are all pretty similar can help break down stereotypes and remind us that "those people" want the same things we do.

15. How does the news of a new and better computer games affect you?
I'm pleased by the news, but I don't run out to buy the latest game like I used to. I've been disappointed too many times and have better uses for my money.

A. Do you usally wait for a few months to get it, or do you buy it right away?
I tend to wait for the reviews to come out and the prices to drop. It helps if I know somebody else who has it and I can meet them online.

16. Have you made any computer games yourself?
I made some simple games in BASIC years ago.

A. What are some of the games you've made?
Text adventures, simple space shooters

B. Were they fun?
They were for the time. I would modify them according to who I gave them to.
