I posted a news update relating to the new hive stuff we're working on, and showing some of Luis's cool new models.

wow, very... different (I'm 99.9% sure it's an improvement, but I can see myself missing the blue-y)

We'll probably keep using the existing models for certain things too. And there'll probably be some time of transition between them. I'm going to need models for things like "training drones" and stuff, so I imagine I'll keep using the old bot models for that.

I like. I can definitely see the influence of various ship types (especially the current new TPG models) in those bots in some places, like the Hive has been scavenging bits of destroyed ships (which I guess is the idea). Very cool.

Will you be keeping the exsistint bots in game in some fashion?

why do hive bots have a cockpit

Aug 07, 2006 incarnate link
uhh. I don't see a cockpit.

The bots have always had a shiny bit on the front where the sensors are supposed to be.

Nice work, guys. These LOOK great. It's a blending of a kind of insectoid form with ship parts. You've done a great job with this.

However, they'll be pretty easy to hit with all those exposed surfaces. Will the assault and guardian bots be more "warlike?" As in, low cross-section, low observability (black coloration), etc?

wOOt! Do we have a release time on these?

I'm very fond of the asemertical look Luis' bots have--very befitting of them.

Once you actually get this stuff up and running, things will get really interesting a bit sooner than soon(tm).

I don't have a definite release timeline, but it could be as soon as 3 weeks or so. But, we have a bunch of work to do, and the meshes/hulls will need to be tweaked, integrated into the game, tested, hive behaviour stuff tested, yadda yadda. But anyway, it's coming, and we'll roll it in as soon as we can.

I love the new hive bots, should be great.

Just to poke fun at stuff...

Gotta love the observer's similarity to a bent satelite.

and...

Is it me or does it look like someone put a lot of big parts on R2-D2 on the far right view of the Transport? (R2-D2's advanced combat mode as seen in Star Wars Episode VII)

There is a Star Wars: Episode VII? I thought it only went up to VI.

Definitely a lot more realistic. Great models!

the transport front view looks like a tie fighter. thats where the 'cockpit' thing comes in.

wanted to echo visitor that the asymmetrical design of the collector looks great... reminds me of some sort of deep sea fish.

The transport looks like the hive ripped off the design from the UIT Maud. frekky.
