Is it worth trying again

Jul 29, 2006 <COW>Primate link
I purchased this game last summer and played for about a week. My progress hit a dead spot where I was going from one side of the universe to the other to try and level up and it just became a bore so I stopped playing. THis summer I got into eve but the hours and hours of tutorial just was a bit much for me and gave up space sims . I have heard some chatter about vendetta getting better and was thinking of giving it another shot.... My question:

Has the game changed much over the past year? I mean enough to give it another go?

I pulled 2 friends into the game before and they quit for the same reason. Is leveling up easier than it used to be?

Thank in advance for any comments.

In answer to your first question: YES.

In answer to your second question: NO.

BUT... I think that the additions to the game will make the leveling much more
interesting. And I think that if you take a somewhat more "long term" view of
the game and and leveling within it, you will have a lot more fun.

I have been playing, almost continuously, since October 2002. During that time,
there were several total resets (experience, money, levels etc reset to 0) so I
have no idea where I would be now if my progress had been uninterrupted. I am
now at about the same levels as I was after the last reset (before the game went
"pay-for-play") It was work. Sort of. But please keep in mind that if you allow
yourself to get into the GAME instead of concentrating on "leveling" you will have
a great deal of fun AND the levels will come......

Honestly, if you didn't think it was worth playing a year ago, I'd give it a few more months. If you don't like it this time, you probably won't come back. Version 2.0 is coming in the next few months hopefully. 2007 is going to be a really big year for VO. I'd hold out until then.

is leveling easier than a year ago... I'd have to say yes! due to the new escort missions and sedina hive missions which spit out combat xp for everything you do. a year ago it was not quite that simple.

Leveling isn't hard, this just may be my year's experience speaking, though.

it was annoying when the best thing was that very terrible advanced combat mission!

Thank you for the responses. I think I will take the advice of CrazySpence and wait for the 2.0 to come out. I don't want to waste money again since I can't find my CD key I will have to purchase the game again. Hopefully it will be worth it.

I am looking for a game to give me the wing commander expirience I had back in college and I must say this was the closest to it.

In reponse to RattMann. I did get into the game a lot at first but when you get jacked all the time when you are running shuttle missions it gets annoying so you need to level up just for defense reasons. When it was very very slow going I just lost interest.

Thanks again all!

Primate, you could always create a new trial account and use the 8 hours to see how you feel about some of the changes. Of course that has the disadvantage of not being able to use your existing character or carry over the new character.

I would however suggest you give it a few more months before trying again as well. It looks like a lot of long term plans are finally starting to come together, so (hopefully) big changes are coming.

Right on thanks for the suggestion. I don't remember my old login so I will have to start from scratch anyway.... Is there any release date for the new version? Thanks again all. If nothing else I must say this game seems to have a strong community :)

no actual release date yet, but progress is looking good. :)

the most recent update is a huge step in the right direction, we can now move ship weapons and such as cargo, and theres active NPC pirates that do things at least as inteligently as PC pirates.. (and in some cases moreso... we have some really slow PC pirates tho :) )

a lot of new cargo trade goods were added as well, and the type of good that was added gives strong indicators that the economy changes and a form of crafting are coming in the near future.. that is soon instead of SOON(tm).
