Ok, so I've got more questions....so new thread. I know Leebs said he was gonna throw some effort at this, and some others may want to as well:

My question is regarding GTS:
Is this a common denominating form of correspondance?
Many have noted that it is somewhat lacking in its totallity when viewed as an actual literary vocabulary, falling quite short of English for instance.
So... is GTS something all the nations would have adopted? Would it be used as simply a quick pictoral way of denoting the services or products one had available? Or, the common language of the three nations having devolved so far, have replaced English (or indeed whatever language was in use at the time) as the common literary denominator?
Basically... would each Nation still uitilize the mother tongue? Or would they have adopted this new form of communication?

Gavan... not bad. Obviously the quality is going to need work but I like the graphic concepts/design a lot. Better than what we have in game right now, that's for certain.
My one concern regarding national symbols is that none are currently found in game (that I know of)... and one would expect symbols seen in an intro screen to be found throughout the universe: it would be wierd to see a national symbol during character creation and then never again for the rest of the game.
What about using screen shots of planets? A blue earth-like planet for the Itani, a red lava planet for the serco and a gold gas giant with rings for the UIT. The planets could even slowly rotate in real time, they could also represent actual Itani, Serco, and UIT homeworlds that can be found in game.

From reading the manual's section on GTS, I believe that it is not adopted for internal usage; only for activities that would involve multiple nations such as trading. The section also mentions that it was intended to be easy to learn, the reason which would explain why it is simple.
But John could probably answer this better as he has the real answer.

Actually, I think Waylon would be better equipped than John to answer this >_>
I edited the original post for context.
Phaser: I agree... I think if they go with nation symbols (and they have) then they should incorporate them into the rest of the game as well. Perhaps this is going to lead to the fulfillment of the multiple requests for branding of one's ship.
As far as the planets, I was definately considering that for the colour version of the Serco symbol, given their backstory (The burning star represents Skycommand for instance). But I didn't feel this work especially well for the UIT who I imagined would probably just as soon abandon a planet once the resources were depleted. Perhaps the Itani might...

I did originally type 'Waylon and John' but John is the one that is still able to change it. But that's right... Waylon did make the language. It's Waylonics after all.
Nice montsuki, Gavan. In fact, I like them all.
They're all nice, Gavan. But just to let you know, that's 'independent' =)
Hey Gav, I like the originals you did the other day better. These look a little cartoonish. (Still better than anything my untalented ass would churn out.)
I like the stylized logos better. It looks like something that the military would stencil on a craft. Just my opinion.

I haven't changed anything Klabbath. Perhaps you're mistaking the ones that are on the screenshot for mine? Those are the ones that are in-game right now.
I don't have any clue as to what Klabbath is trying to say either. :S
Gavan: I love the logos. It'd be more than a little bit awesome if these symbols were adopted (and incorporated into the rest of the game).
Phaserlight: What do you mean by "Obviously the quality is going to need work..."?

My version of the UIT logo, as seen on Joyce's website.
Cool, I like the animation. I wonder if that's something that the devs could work into the UI? Would be cool.
Aw hell, you're right, Gav. Sorry. I wasn't paying attention.

I like them Gavan.
I love yours Gav,
The placeholders they have in right now are hideous though :P

'Obviously' was the wrong choice of words...
Let's put it this way... as we learned in the ship design thread there's usually a lot more to it than whipping up something in photoshop. What file format are we talking about? How many layers are required? How would it look against a teal UI background? How would it look out in space? On the side of a ship? How would the logo design hold up under 2x, 5x, or 10x magnification?
I do like the designs (I think Gavan did a great job capturing the spirit of each nation in symbol, my only critique would be that Serco's emblem is far more intricate than the Itani or UIT, and why the acronym?) and I'm not trying to be pessimistic, I just want to get all the facts before saying 'That's great let's lobby the devs to put that .jpg in game.' Yes I did read the other thread.
I would be perfectly happy with Gav's symbols as concepts for the three nations, I think he definitely has the right idea...

For the Serco, definitely Gavan FTW.
For the Itani, I can't decide between his (Gavan's) and the one ctishman (I think) came up with--the one with the blue diamond with the yellow-gold accents.
For the UIT, I think Jex's is best, but I wonder if it would be animated ingame. If yes, kickass.
EDIT: reworded post so it makes more sense.

Really good, Gavan. I like them all !!!!
