WTF is up with Ion Storms?
What's the current direction of ion storms? Are they going to be used for something soon? I think I read that they were originally intended to be a place that gave pirate the ability to ambush traders...but that doesn't make sense as the exit point changes depending on where you enter and pirates wouldn't really be able to stay lurking in storms with all the bots there...
So anyway, why do we have them still? Right now they're just ****ing annoying, and no matter how realistic or whatever a feature is (in this case storms), it doesn't belong in a GAME unless it makes it more fun, which storms don't really do at all, especially since now we've got dangerous enough NPC pirates at whs.

I thought that ion storms are a side effect of our gravitic pulse engines. So if you really don't like them, you should prevent them by staying planetside.
what the heck is an ion storm anyways?
They seem to be come rare, have not run into one in a long time.

go through Odia...your bound to fine one there somewhere
For one thing, they are there to provide choke points at which combat can take place during escort missions.
This sounds like it belongs in suggestions.

What? Races without wormholes? Nowaaaay!
(shouted /me who happened to hit about 8 storms during Deneb run today before being warpkilled by some pirate)

I always plan my in-system jumps such that I never pass over sectors with asteroids in them. I only hit the occasional ion storm on unfamiliar runs where there is an uncharted asteroid field. I don't think that's unreasonable.
Actually smitt, ion storms do come in handy for piracy, when chasing them unskilled trader folk, if they hit one, they are dead! And they also force skilled traders to plot round all roid fields, which as long as the chasin rat can anticipate, means it takes them longer to get from wh to wh in the event of no storms! So ner ner!
Storms ARE fun for me smittens. I grin ear-to-ear whenever you hit one.
I also RP that all the little blue puffs floating around are smurf remains.

lol
the ion storms also make escorting missions harder because those factions are so focused on saving fuel that they insist on straight line routes.
move the pirates to the storms, like it was in the game description a few years back.
Player pirates camp out in ion storms sometimes, when they are positioned such as to provide a bottleneck to lazy traders.
Let the storms be, i have boomed many many traders in them, i LIKE THEM!!!
eh!
while having plotted a straight-through course through sercoland recently, i inevitably hit a couple of storms (it's pointless to loose time to plot a storm-free course when you have a fast ship). in one of them, these was a lone serco noob (3/4/4) in a wraith.
i used the occasion to reaffirm my kos status with the rednecks. :p
sorry noob, whoever you are.
storms are sometimes full of surprises.
