The game is fun. I don't know if its for me though. It seems like it is a pvp game mostly. I really suck at pvp. If this game offered more,i might have upgraded. I'm really looking for an Earth & Beyond replacement. I'm more into roleplaying than just shoting at other players or being shot at all the time. I wish this game offered a choice of what you want to do. It just seems that pvp is more important than content in mmo's now.

Valid points and I hope that the developers of the game address these concerns and others sooner than soon (tm).

players do make a sizeable chunk of "content" but there's still plenty to do for loners. the various escort missions, trading stuff and so forth does give you plenty to do if you care not for pvp.

yeah. more content could be added but there's still plenty.

v2.0 is around the corner (it's a long road but there's a corner somewhere) should bring new economy, new ships and dev knows what.

I hope you guys are right. To me..games that focus on pve and pvp tend to do alot better than a game that only focuses on 1 side of gaming. I could see this game becoming very good if the dev's work on this. I know right now only 4 guys are working on it,but they should think about it anyways. People are dieing for a good space mmo. Right now all we have is eve online. Tried to play it,Man that game is just to slow and boring. Sure it gets better when you have played it a year,If you could last that long.

Yes! Need more content!
This game HAS to become a single player game with a chat feature, or it will FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!1!!

Hush Genka :P

I thought there is already plenty the do without doing PVP? The Escort missions... trading missions... bot killing missions... ok, so maybe that IS just about it... but I doubt the Devs are ever going to turn their backs on PVE.

Genka,No one wants a singleplayer game here. Just hoping for more things added down the road. I'm sure pvper's are happy with the way things are now,but is that good enough for a game to work and build a larger playerbase ? I think not. How about being able to build in this game. Maybe setup a maket at stations for player made goods. Its just a thought.

yeah, players need more freedom trading. I think this will come when the real economy is implemented.

Like Galaxy said, what I don't get is how people don't see there's a lot of PvE already! The Hive missions, the escort missions, the mining and prospecting, trading. Sure it's up to the player to make things interesting in most of these but that's how it should be if you ask me. A player influenced universe is far greater than having loads of storyline missions.

We're working on expanding and improving a lot of the PvE elements in the immediate future.

This is really interesting. I've had my account for about ten days now. In that time I have made eight PKs, all of them in the border patrol mission when human pilots showed up to interfere with my bot killing quest for experience.

I think if a player, especially a newcomer to the game, thinks that the game is out of balance towards the PvP then it's largely because that's all he chose to look for. I played this sucker for a solid WEEK before I ever ended up in combat with someone that had a pulse.

I'm not saying Jarfaru's comments are not valid, just that they are statistically dischordant. Most of the rest of us, judging from the responses here, seem to think the game is well balanced between PvE and PvP.

What I wish for? More TEAM oriented stuff: missions where some people have to mine while others defend them. Coordinated large-scale tactical combat. Fleet assaults. Stuff that will only come when there are larger numbers of players with experience in the game system.

A lot of the problem is that the new user isn't very well introduced to what's actually available in the game. People are sort of dumped in with "here's how to fly, good luck", and there is little to no advice on where to go from there. I'm currently working on improving the tutorial system to help this and other issues. Not to tell everyone exactly how they should play, but hopefully at least make some newbies a little more aware of what's out there.

Remember to put the new stuff in the manual, too, even though, yes I know, no one reads the manual.
Jul 04, 2006 roguelazer link
Ahh, the manual, where you can still see things like this.
Jul 04, 2006 Galaxy613 link
Dude that interface is OLD! It's not even really funny how OLD it is... then again, I can see why the devs haven't updated it. I think they should take the manual down until they can do it justice.

Klabbath makes a valid point about the attraction for more group activites. Guilds do try to run group events open to all comers, and have the intention of doing more in Nation space to make them more accesible to newer players.

Bear in mind that it is summer ( apart from the few australian players ! ) and that folk are away doing summer activities rather than gaming.

With apologies for relinking this may give newer players an idea of what someone of average abality can get up to when the game is in full swing:

Man, Genka's trolling standards has dropped precipitiously.

Ontopic :

Yes, Jarfaru, This game is mostly PVP at the moment. However, if you like RP, there is a recent swelling of good RP-ers in VO. At the moment, RP-ing in VO is rather free-form. You do get some gems like the Mogul Velaio saga. PVP can also lead to some nice RP, e.g. the great VPR-IA-BLAK wars which raged for weeks and lead to some real heated emotions :D.

We agree.
Jul 05, 2006 krazyivan link
There is nothing keeping anyone from really great RP or non-PVP activities in this game. Most people don't realize it and expect it to be handed to them. The devs will start handing us stuff to do eventually. In the meantime, one of the really great things about VO right now is that we aren't limited to the missions that a team of devs can create. In most games, that leads to lines of teams at the starting point for some quests and everyone in the universe having done the same missions at some time or another.

Mogul Velaio is a great example. Another is TGFT. They do group mining all the time...Obsidian's newsposts make it sound like they even venture into dangerous sectors and divide into miners and escorts. They also run their own convoys sometimes (complete with transporters, escorts, scouts and commanders). No, we can't have our own stations or cap ships yet, but when we do we'll need raw materials so group mining and saving up the raw ore is probably a good idea.

I belong to CGCC. We're a pretty new guild, but we've already got some RP going in the galaxy and we are keeping ourselves very busy doing non-combat missions for ourselves.

Jarfaru: If you want to take a look at what we have before you decide to put VO on hold, come talk to somone in CGCC. Or, contact someone in TGFT...I think you can still reach them on channel 444. I hope to see you ingame.
