Introducing - Fwaar!
G'day everyone
I'm so new to this game that I haven't even finished downloading it yet, but I thought that I'd introduce myself instead of watching the bytes tick over in the download dialog. In the interests of internet-anonymity, I'll be deliberately vague. :-)
I'm an Australian male aged 30-40, currently running a Windows PC until I purchase a MacBook Pro sometime in the next couple of weeks. I previously played Rubies of Eventide, and Eternal Lands before that. Both of those games seem geared towards powerlevelling, and combat was less than optimal (to put it politely). After reading most of this website, I think VO should be more my style. I was quite the Unreal Tournament player many years ago, and I could hold my own at Quake 3: Arena as well. I'm hoping that these long-lost skills will translate well to VO combat.
I'm probably being a bit premature by announcing myself before I even see if I like the game, but oh well. Here I am!

Rooock you like a huuuricaane!
*ahem*
Hi! Welcome to VO. If it's combat you are looking for, you've found it. (If it's wombat, well, look around outside.)

G'day mate! Where in Oz do you Hail from? If you played Elite or Freelancer (even the Privateer series) you'll get a kick out of this game. Also, this game is said to be Quake in space. This game is pretty open ended and you will probably end up doing one of the following:
Trader: making lots of cash
Pie Rat: kills traders (may not make as much if you are a pure Pie Rat).
Miner: see trader.
Soldier: Read the backstory so you could choose which side you want to fight for.
Of course you will probably mix and match but again this is up to you.

I live near our nation's capital, and it's starting to get pretty darn cold about now. The ugh boot's are on, the heater is fired up, and I just spent the last hour or two reading through the VO backstory. I think that I'm ready to load up the game, pick a side and get fighting. My first character will be named after me (of course), so keep an eye out for the unco-ordinated Aussie n00b bumping into asteroids in a sector near you.
Welcome to VO and I hope you'll enjoy and stay FOREVER =p
Have a nice play

Welcome to VO Fwaar!
I think you'll definitely like it if it's combat your after. Vendetta's realtime combat engine is not to be rivaled by... well, by anything! The only trouble you're going to have adapting to VO is learning to be on the bottom for a while. :D I'm just being honest here, nothing personal, but it sounds like you're a pretty good gamer, and you might expect a lot from yourself at first. All I can say is, it takes time.
Around your 50th PID, (Player Induced Death), you'll start figuring out what people are doing and finally start getting PKs, (player kills)
And not until their 100th PK or so do people finally start understanding the combat their in, and being better able to addapt to different situations
By the time you hit 500 PKs, (if you've been playing consistently, not stop few months and start months,) your reflexes will be completely VO honed, and only your most general tactics will require THINKING about.
So to put it gently, it'll be a while. And even after a while, there's always going to be someone better. *cough* Shape *cough* Eldrad *cough* Always.
On the other hand, losing a battle, a war, or a fight in VO always seems worthwile. Why?
1) Because you don't actually lose THAT MUCH money.
2) Because you know you learned something
3) Because the other player did not beat you because of skillgrinding, time spent ingame, expensive expansion packs. They beat you through skill, and skill alone.
Ok, and one more promotional bit. There's one other big difference between VO and any other game I've played. In most games, pressing certain keys do certain things. In VO, you get so adept at the controls, it no longer feels like pressing keys, and no one who still thinks like that CAN be any good. In Vendetta, you are INSIDE your spacecraft, in a universe 2000 years from now. A universe swept by the storms of an eternal vendetta. And you, one pilot in a vast universe, have only your speed, your reflexes, and your tactics to help you survive.
That said, welcome to VO!
/me looks forward to shooting yar n00bish butt down in-game,

Hello there Fwaar, maybe we'll meet in-game.
Hello there fellow Aussie. Adelaide here. Enjoy and don't be afraid to ask questions. The game is undergoing some restructuring and the tutorial is/was a bit behind.
Person's advice is pretty good too.

I'm online an hour to an hour and a half each day Blackhole, we must just be on at different times.
Well, if you admit that I give you money, then I'm 100% right. I'm not sure you've EVER beat me in your rag of... uh... it's not doom, well. Rag of über-brick-ness. Maybe we should arrange a tourney for me to prove it...
