*smacks ghostieboy for not considering the facts*
Said facts:
- Just because one nation or faction is "the best" does not mean that the other is "evil".
- Just because you're Itani doesn't mean you have unequivocal right to call the Serco names.
- Blacklight was perfectly justified in his response, and in his position, I would do the same.

At anyrate, I think 11 should be joined automaticly, not active, just joined...
I have 11 on almost all the time and I rarely see traffic in it.
Besides, I *need* channel 100, otherwise I can't get paid for mass-market advertising.

""i mean, soon we guys will log, and stay in station chating on 100...
It's a game after all, not a giant chat with "spacecraft-like windows".""
Its not a big chat session? Thats what i use the game for :) And Graig i rarely leave the station anymore when i'm in game.

Lol Jess :-D
I can guess that you don't play anymore cause your beloved CTC isn't as popular as it used to be :-p
Taht's exactly my point anyway. I don't mind about people talking, but too much talk just kill the game. I'll wait to see if the situation change with the new stuffs coming, if Itani* would really be Itani* or just a blue** colored player.
[*could be replace by serco or uit. /** or red or yellow./I know you're are not stupid as I know some ppl should concentrate their answers on this point]

Graig, I remember we were often 80+ online in November 2004 when VO was released. The problem with channel 100 was that it was crowded(!). There was a lot of talk there but that was not so much a problem. I can remember very fun discussions, with guys like Chao and their strange theories or funny pie jousts.
Now the problem with 40 max players who all know each other and keep fighting each other, channel 100 chat tends to be centred on smack talk and ego battles.
Nation chat is not very cool with a limited number of players online. And in fact it has never been half the fun of guild chat.
Also those who say that channel 1 should be reused do have a point. Players/characters can have a bragging or aggressive posture on channel 100, and still be very nice and helping on a help channel; on the other hand, there are impatient guys who can't stand n00b questions. Lately newbies ask questions on channel 100 and fairly often get something like 'take the tutorial mission' as their first answer, followed by 'f... off' or the like if they insist.

I agree with Sun, new people with their new people questions should be directed back to channel 1.
Not to take this any further off subject but to make a point, you are 100% correct, Sun Tzu. Too many players, especially some players that have indicated a willingness to mentor, tell new players to shove off or give them the quick answer which means nothing to them.
100 has become the "off-topic channel", as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately, as a guide, I must monitor it.
As I see it, 1 and 11 should be the only channels a new player should have access to. The only other players on 1 should be mentor volunteers and guides. Once a player has finished the tutorial, they should have access to other channels.
I think channel 2 or 10 should be the new "game chat channel" or "Universe Channel", if you will. This channel should be limited to VO communications only, preferably of an RP nature. Discussions such as where minerals can be found or where's the best place to buy Valks or what weapon is best would be allowed but as soon as debates or arguments develop, it must be taken somewhere else (100).
I think we should have 2 "jail" channels. The first is already established (666). I suggest this be locked to players who aren't sent there by a Guide and maintained as the "Obscenity" channel for those with Tourette Syndrome or those who just can't make a point without some colorful help. The second (???) should also be locked to those that aren't sent there by a Guide and be called the "Insult" channel for those obsessed with name-calling and other player's mothers.
Every player in VO has a right to join or leave any channel of the more than 4.2 billion available to us.
I second GRAIG's suggestion that all players be put on 11 as default and I encourage everyone to monitor 11.

What was my surprise to see my buddy Sun Tzu back into the game. I hope I can see you in game once again buddy :)
Back to the topic:
There two different aspects of this subject, what we would like to see now with a short player database and what we would like to see for channel communication once devs start advertising the game and we start to receive thousands of players (I hope).
My question is, should we discuss something to implement now considering current user base or future user base?

Haha. The insult channel. Love it. Do you get that one on basic cable?
Yeah, when we have 100+ people online, channel 100 will just be like scrolling thru a WP document, and the other channels will start to be used more often.
I think we should allow the channels to be "named" and "owned", like the FCC in the USA. You apply for and obtain a channel that you can name. (Will it cost credits? Who knows) Then you can have settings based on who is allowed access to that channel. Guilds/Nations/specific players/anyone, etc.
That way, you can have multi-guild chats, guild AND nation chats, Guild and a specific person chat, or whatever. This would be more complex, but also more granular and ultimately more useful.
And instead of having the channel be known as "Channel 8785", you'll be able to assign a name and nickname to it like "[TEQ] LeberMac's Tequila Chat Channel" And you'd join or leave it by /join TEQ or /leave TEQ. That's why we have URL's instead of IP numbers, and why stations have call letters.

100 = default = bad thing, and mih needs shooting anyways.
Relayer: I wholeheartedly agree that 1 and 11 should be the defaults, however while I think it is for the best that the new players not be joined on 100 or told of its existance until after they complete the tutorial, I don't think they should be *denied access* to any of the channels.
Ideally, I'd like to see channel 1 come back as the default newbie channel. People could go there to get help, or to offer help, and that's definately the ideal place for a newb to start out. I also think channel 11 should be listened in on by default, mainly for the RP aspects and the fact that it's really the only channel that doesn't get out of hand.
I'm all for 'labelling' channels, and letting players /list channels:
1: [HELP]
10: [UNIVERSAL]
11: [NATION]
100: [OFFTOPIC]
201: [ITANI CTC]
202: [SERCO CTC]
etc...
