Limit Beta clients to test server.
Just saw a player *uhum* exploit the crap out of beta8 to zoom around the sector (b8 btw, and no, I didnt die) like he was in a UFO, and your sure you should'nt be unleashing this on the wild when even clowns like him can do it?
Maybe you should find a way to ban people who repeatedly exploit a bug in a beta client from using one, or maybe even just limit the client to trusted people or something, but hell.
Something has to be done, he wasnt even hacking, just using a known bug.

yes... I agree. I hear that people do in-sector warping, cheating and invisibility, flying through objects and what not. I think there needs to be a beta client that only runs on the test server where the regular EULA doesnt apply.
It can not happen that people use the beta clients on the regular game server to gain unfair advantages via exploits, bugs, cheats and console gaps left open for development purposes.

I don't think the gaps were intentional, but I hear what you are saying. It's not cool when people can mess with VO's "reality".
The problem with only testing on the test server is that many people don't go there. These gaps might not have been found until the UI hit the production server.

Ok. now Mr spuck and Calahorim are in b-8 sedina, just messing around with it, warping into people. turning invisable, blasting stuff with explosions, going through rocks and stuff insanely fast, they wont stop, they wont even go onto the test server, please, have it be labeled as "exploit" on the normal server....they can even add mass to their ships, I have a strong feeling that they can give themselfs money as well, I mean, they can do anything else in-sector.
great! I want my money back! (just kidding. but yeah, uncool.)
so Whistler : what are you going to do about it?

yoda i think you are simply jealous. for a measily 500,000 credits i will show you how to be able to sit your bus not on the asteroid, but submerged halfway into it.
I know of most of the exploits those two are using and I have personally restricted myself to using and testing them to the test server.
However, I have assurances from a dev that these exploits will not be available when the client goes to production or the next bugfix version comes out--so enjoy them while you can.

...well I must disagree the "enjoy them while you can". They should not be used, if they bring character advances, money or any other unfair advantage when interacting with other players.
Why is this stuff not fixed immediately? This is a serious exploit and beta8 is still available for download.
Let me rephrase that. Its sad that there are several people massively exploiting bugs in B8 and no dev or guide in sight. Maybe we should just call the production server beta server and call it a day.
Not fixed immediately because first the causes must be found and then a good solution must be found. Then there's the fact that, being a client, these people must actually download the thing, which is, at the moment, strictly voluntary. So while most people will download a new, exploit-free version, the rest will keep using it until they no longer can.
By pointing out names here, though, the Devs/Guides could look into the accounts and MAYBE see if indeed these people advanced beyond normal means, and if so then fix them or apply punishment as per the EULA.

Traditionally the devs go fairly light on things that they've caused. I would expect some sort of official warning in the forums prior to disciplinary action being initiated - but they could just ask the guides to deal with it. If a guide asks you to stop, then you ought to stop - announcement or no.
Also, you'd be suprised what the server tells the devs about who is breaking the "natural laws" of VO. No need to post names.

RelayeR's on top of things. She was "monitoring" those two tonight in-sector, and as far as I can tell, all they did was screw around with teleport-positioning and in-sector warping. It was kinda funny, and I didn't witness any advantage being gained thru this.

Hi, we updated the production client and did a protocol change. No more lua exploity in 1.5.x.

.......no. Money is completely server-side; to avoid problems with lag and, to a lesser extent, server resources, a lot of "realtime" stuff (movement, shot births) is done client-side and trusted to a fairly high extent by the server, but doing this with money isn't necessary, so it isn't done. Inventory is the same, too. (Rule #1 of MMO design, don't trust what you can't read)
In order to give oneself money, one would have to hack the server. Guild would not like that, methinks.
