God I hope it costs at least 5 million.
Mar 04, 2006 ArAsH link
yes, 2 to 5 mil is a good price for it.

Lets just go for ten million eh? makes no sense, thats more like capital ship prices.
Mar 05, 2006 Dark Knight link
I'm thinking 1.2 million for the basic Trident (depending on what the finalized stats are), and around 7-8 million for a basic HAC.

I use the term "basic" because I get the feeling there are going to be several highly-specialized variants of each, e.g. an anti-fighter HAC that'll have a ton of "small" turrets but nothing large enough to really be effective against anything bigger than a Trident, or a Trident designed as a heavy weapons platform, but with no real speed or maneuvering to let it contend with fighters.

2 million for the basic Trident, and 10 million for the basic HAC, sez I. And 5-15 for the basic destroyer, depending on how it compares with the HAC.

NOOOO replace the EC88 with a stripped down Trident and make em free !

Idiot.

Now I have to wipe the drool off my keyboard. Thanks a zillion.

1 1/2 million credits, 1/2 million credits I can deal with. But going over that -.-.
I know a lot of players have CRAPLOADS of money, but those players keep their mouths shut about how they get said money, and I'm left mining lonely for hours trying to make some substantial cash. Often, uh, useless, since I wander around and try to help noob's into the hostile community. So please, at least make it cost little enough that us helpful players can pay for its repairs if it blows up.

LoB:
Mining is slow - you need to trade for money. Anything over 300cr/cu is a money good (600cr/u for 2cu cargo, 900cr/u for 3cu cargo). Buy it, move it, sell it. You can make over a million in an hour if you know how to trade effectively.

As for how most of the people with uberloads of money earned it, your answer will more than likely be pre-fix BP.

LordofBlades, I can sell you a very big money trade route.

As far as the cost of ships, I say: LOTS. Devs talked about increasing cost of ships with the economy redux. If this happens (which it should) then a 50k setup will cost significantly more. With that in mind, a 1/2 million Trident seems extremly low. I think a Trident should cost in the low 7 figures, and the HACs low to middle 8 figures. Too low cost and they begin to supersede light an heavy small ships, and the galaxy goes way out of balance. It also encourages without requiring guilds to work together to purchase the large ships.
Mar 05, 2006 jexkerome link
Yap, the economy redux should increase the price of ship considerably. If the basic moth ended up costing 60k at normal (non-Corvus) prices, I wouldn't bat an eye.

Plus, someone who has trouble making money shouldn't have access to the capships, anyway. All in all, I'm hoping that their acquisition will REQUIRE tons of cash AND a Guild.
Mar 05, 2006 750ksec link
I disagree about requiring a guild. Certainly a guild purchasing a large ship would be easier, do to the pooling of resources, but an individual with the ambition to do so should be able to purchase and use the largest ships in the game by himslef, if that is how he wants it. As I pointed out in another thread, allowing NPCs to be hired to crew the ship should be an option, and made an ongoing operating expense. The AI is more than capable of manning turrets.
Mar 08, 2006 Cunjo link
I can agree that they should be purchasable by the individual, but the cost should be near prohibitive. If you can't make 20Mcr, then you probably don't belong at the helm of a HAC.
Mar 08, 2006 Doukutsu link
Considering the Trident is only slightly harder to kill than a moth, I'm thinking the price should be somewhere around 500k - 750k.

If someone doesn't want to be in a guild, he/she should probably still be able to buy a capitol ship, but it doesn't make any sense to make it easier for that person to buy a capship. I agree that 20m sounds a fair price for a HAC.

But from what the devs have said, it seems to me that buying a capship (like a HAC, not a Trident) for the use of a single person would be fairly pointless.
Mar 08, 2006 CrazySpence link
yea, the trident should be considered entry level and therefore not as expensive, i'd say 350k for an unarmed transport variety which anyone who likes grey space would of course never use or if used by a guild be heavily escorted.

or more expensive military versions, say 25k per turret, and an extra 100k for a dockable version so one with 8 turrets and a docking port would run up to 600k

and the HAC should be stupidly expensive due to its sheer size and armor
Mar 08, 2006 moldyman link
I'd imagine that a ship of that size would take more than one person to use to it's full potential. Not that one person couldn't just joyride his Trident through Verasi...

"Considering the Trident is only slightly harder to kill than a moth, I'm thinking the price should be somewhere around 500k - 750k."

This is due for change... I understand the devs fully intend to increase its armor substantially.

I can of course agree that if it did remain as weak and defenseless as it currently is, it should cost around that, but it won't... I'm thinking basic varients of the Trident should run around 1.5 million, and more combat or blockade-runner specialized varients upwards of 3 million. Weapon systems would, of course, cost more.

HAC would be ludicrously high in price... 10 mil and up, more for weapons, and with high maintainance costs.

I would say that, just as NPCs can take the place of players in missions, they should be able to take the place of players in turrets as well. We should be able to hire NPC crew to supplement player crew. Even on the best days you'll never be able to get you guild mates to sit in a turret while you fly your cap ship. It'd be boring. People want to feel the power! There's no good reason not to let them.

That's a really good idea. In all this talk about the up front price of the ships, there should be an on going cost of maintaining and running the big ships. Then the initial price could be low enough for individuals to purchase, but if you don't make money fast enough, you lose your ship or at least the right to use your ship. Maybe a lower ongoing cost for keeping it docked and a higher one for actually using it as then you hire the crew.
