Not as cool as saying a new client was out, or that it's bug-free and ready for production :(, but some news in any case.

Luis is working on a bunch of new stuff for us, including some new universe objects.. basically "floating junk" of various types. Broken freighters, dead capital ships from bygone battles, and the like. Something new that we can spread around the universe and use for more interesting historically-driven regions, use in missions, and so on. We also have a whole bunch of ships from him, of course, which will begin to start appearing once we can production-ize the new client.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No kidding! That bit about floating junk is awesome. I'm like, "blah blah blah blockade blockade...BROKEN FREIGHTERS YEAH!"

Heh, well not really, the blockading bit is crazy delicious too, but ancient capital ship hulls out in the black, that's cool.

awesome!

Sounds great, but....

How will the blockading work? It seems like the only truely effective way to blockade a station would be to be in the station sector itself...and then of course you lose your standing when you kill the traders, thus rendering it pointless, as you can't dock to take advantage of it anyway

Ohhhh Ohhhh i know... Seeing as were going to have the 'space junk' and you already have the 'Amazingly fun mission' couldnt we combine the two??
Cant we have the 'Amazingly fun space junk mission' where you get to fly about in an EC95 Garbage Truck / Bus and pick up all the space junk???

I'm jazzed about getting some actual storyline progression (@!#@!) in our game. But, I'm a storyline kinda guy.

Yeeeeeeeeaaah storyline!!

Awww sweeeeeeeet!

Actually, I can imagine a "salvage" mission where you go mine on the old hulls for scrap metal, and occasionally a more valuable part pops out into space, revealed by your scrapings.

YAY! New stuff, woo hoo, story line stuff! YAY DEVS! I can't wait for all the stuff to be put in!

you are thinking too small there smittens...
Think CtC on a massive scale... stop one out of every 3 transports from getting into itani (or serco) space out by the wormholes in edras/ukari and prices take a big jump for members of that nation...

As for the mission editor - if the respective authors agree, gather all the good stories from RP forum and convert them into awesome missions! ;-)

See? The devs DO listen to us...
Outstanding. Can't wait!

I demand that a derelict UIT cap ship be placed in Sedina B-8, that broadcasts a message saying "Here lies the UPK Zelor, a mighty vessel wingbugged by a n00b in a Vulture" when you hail it!

Or, you know, not. =P

Sweet. Looks like we'll be getting some of this long awaited stuff once the client is done, finally. =)

Love my Black Vult. =p

Can't wait! When this is done I'm going to scrap some money togeather and reactivate my subscription to take advanage of all these new things! :D

Oooh, sounds good Spell/Inc.

I see a new type of guild arising...blockaders, pretty much pirates, but for a fee from traders will block off a station for a bit

Awesome idea (and no, I'm not just thinking of my long-dead stories here), though I doubt it would work as RP's are so often based around one person. You could probably take some concepts from them (ie, capturing one person and demanding a weekend visit from her friend or else you'll kill the hostage), but using the actual stories wouldn't work too well...
Feb 19, 2006 jexkerome link
RPwise I agree with Smittens, most of the stories and events in the RP forums happen around one or two people and are rather personal, so to speak, to be put out there as a widely-available set of missions; without the personal context, they lose most of their uniqueness. There's also the fact that most (if not all) of those events/people involved have given their own twist to the backstory and "current events", so to speak, so Guild would have to review those changes and either accept them or modify them. In other words, and considering the sheer amount of RPing in the forum, it would be more hard work on top of their already-busy schedules; far easier to disregard all player-led RP content and let them build the universe as they want.

The other thing I'm really psyched about is the work on "atmosphere" objects. Imagine entering Deneb to do BP and have the sector littered with Serco and Itani cappy hulls around which you maneuver and hunt your opponents... WOW!
