so, what's your personal record for bad luck in VO?
So far, for me, it was last night...
Bumped the inside of a docking bay the wrong way in my Odia-bought centaur at a pickup station in Geira Rutilus during a 40-u long-haul, bulk procurement mission from Rhamus... died instantly.
Broke my perfect record of >100 kills, 2PKs and one duel win with 0 deaths, and took me back to my home in Verasi with 11 minutes remaining in the mission, and insufficient levels (2/2/2/3/2) to buy anything capable of making the flight back and finishing the mission in the next hour and a half to two hours, much less the next 10 minutes.
I mean, how exactly am I supposed to fly all the way back to Geira - the far side of the universe - to pick up 40 units of cargo and deliver them to Rhamus in a Wraith with a medium battery? I didn't even have enough cash left to drop by Odia for another centaur and fast-charge.

Just a suggestion, but perhaps home at the station where you bought the ship, would have been a good idea. That kind of thing happens, just make sure to dock more carefully next time, especially when there is a time factor and you're low on funds. =)
One other thing you should be aware of, the timer is only for a small cash bonus ;) the actual xp given for the mission and the faction increase stays the same :)
But yeah, you might want to consider homing closer to where your trading :P Stuff like that happens to me all the time, one of my best moments was...
...Chased a 190ms behemoth across 3 systems (yes, systems) and managed to niggle him down to 5% ish, then, as he was running for the station, I think he stopped to type, or something, but anyway, my perfectly healthy valk smashed straight into his behind and exploded - not only did he survive, but I was homed in Deneb due to border patrol sillyness - at the other end of the universe!

Ouch man, that sucks.
Curse you wingbug... cuuuuurse youuuuuu!

Yoda, that is the most hilarious story of woe... evar.
I can't top either of those...
Killed by ion storms en-route to a timed intercept... hit five consecutive storms while attempting to travel from Sedina to Bractus in five minutes... third storm, I warped right into the face of one of those AGT-spamming assault bots, escaped with 5% health. Fifth storm, I roid-warped.
I was homed in Latos (where I couldn't buy the ship I was flying - a Ragnarok MKIII with a full Heavy Assault arsenal). Missed the intercept completely, and lost CtC for the week because of it (we were THAT close...)

Ha! I've yet to have a single bad luck day in VO! Days of bad skills, that's everyday, but bad luck? None.
I remember one fight that I was having against someone (I'm really I forgot who you were...), and the fight was going pretty well for me. He was in a vulture, I was in my CPCS, and we were fighting through the ice fields of sedina, when my target makes a dodge around a roid. I don't see anything except orange flames erupt from behind the roid :P
Well okay, well it wasn't a bad day for me, but it was really funny.

I think that was kernel.panic, Crip.
Me:
1. Winning Deneb Run by a huge margin. I lazily jump into M-14 and start daydreaming about what I was going to do with those 2 million credits. I get hit by some stray shots from Mecha Touriaus, but the station guard & strikeforce goes after him and he makes a break for it. I think the sector's safe as it looks like Mecha's about to jump out. Then Mecha's swarms totally 'splode me outta nowhere, he had launched before starting to run from the SF and the swarms got me from behind as I was oh, about 100 m from the dock. The next racer (the winner...) docked easily a long three minutes later. Lesson learned: Always have sound ON to hear the beeps. Sound ON!
2. Again, racing the deneb run but with a much shorter margin, I was 2nd to Calder due to a series of unfortunate incidents. Calder encounters BlackHole GoldClaw's L-Mine blockade of M-14, he tries to make it thru and dies to the L-mines due to lag. I seize my opportunity and try to go thru the same dock, which has somewhat depleted L-mines. However he has also planted proxmines, and I trigger one, the rest explode, and I am hurled thu the station's walls and die pitifully. Lesson learned: Always have SOME kind of weapon on your racer, if just to clear mines.
3. The heliocene run challenge between BLAK and IA back in the day. I basically dared BLAK to stop me from delivering a full Behemoth load of Heliocene from Jallik to Odia M-14. I make it all the way, confusing attackers and aided by my guildmates. My behemoth warps into M-14, I boost for the dock, but Borb II is waiting for me, sees me and unleashes hell upon my hull. Luckily I make it to the dock, I see the "Press Activate to Dock" prompt. I hammer the "Return" key on my keyboard. Nothing. I press it repeatedly.. click click click click click. Nothing. I hear Borb launch again, and I explode, scattering Heliocene all over the hull of Corvus Prime.
I had been hammering on the SHIFT key, not the RETURN key.
Lesson learned: Get a joystick or gamepad.
Top THAT.

Can't Lebes... and I can't stop laughing either... because I've done *all* of those - except the deneb thing - (at *least* once)...
One that wasn't mentioned (that I have also done):
We Vipers were in a big hairy furball with BLAK... a true multi-multi going... and I get issued back home (happened a lot)... but I was quick through the station and back in sector as fast as I could... as I jumped in , I saw one of my mates had BLAK all over him. I dashed over, lined up... and... nothing... I didn't have a single weap onboard... (my stash ran out, I didn't notice... I did have a battery, though)...

Leebs, considering I was the one who died of lag in the first place, I think that's up there with your stories, :D

theheheh, I never planted prox mines ^^
Yoda wins.
Lebermac, those are funny as hell, but you just can't top issuing your pirate valk on the back of a trader's moth =P
Lesson: next time a pirate is chasing your moth down ina valk, you could try just stopping... XD
EDIT: Finally finished the mission late last night... it took an additional 2 hours.
As for the reason I hadn't homed in Odia... this was my first death after all... maybe I just didn't expect to die and get sent back? Anyway, this has now been amended... if at the expense of two overpriced centaurs, a couple deaths (AGT wraith eat medium-batt phaser vult) and approximately 2 hours (half a week's worth) of gametime.

If you cant dock without taking yourself down then you should not have a pilot license in the first place. Also you better are insured, not that anyone cares about your ship, but the station commanders dont like their station's paint scratched.
This is not the worst kinda luck but...
Ever go through a wh, get distracted like by r/l then think "Wormhole, I must go through that one!" Then find yourself going back through it the way you came?
Sell your best ship at a station only to find out the the one you wanted either was a few licenses above you or you didn't have faction for it? Oh and wait, you can't buy your old ship at that station?
Buy a 'moth full of really expensive cargo to sell at another station and when you get there, some "wonderful" trader got there before you and unloaded their whole inventory (they probably stockpiled for months). Now you have to sell the aforementioned cargo at a loss?
/me goes to the entertainment center of my 'moth, pops open a cold one then watches another dvd.

-check, and with the added inconvenience of having stockpiled the same commodity at the station myself, so I had 11,000u of the (~2000cr) stuff just sitting there at the station, and the price to sell was around 50cr...

My first Deneb Run. What could go wrong? A lot of things, actually, heh. I had 2nd place moving smoothly through Itanispace, when, of all things, I roid-warped and got myself flattened into a pancake. Sniff.
I was in 2nd place. Deneb Run. Hmm, as Leebs, I dreamed of mah credits, when I was heading through Geira.....but then, the impossible actually happened. Spucks dead hamster came and 'sploded me with some missiles. Not just your ordinary missiles, mind you...but...EBIL missiles. Ebilll. I was out of the race faster than Dr. Lecter would take a newb out.
Next week, I thought I would do better in the race. I did. I took 1st place in Deneb after Erik fell to spucks dead hamster's missile spammage and went on to victory!! Until...SDH mysteriously appeared 4 systems ahead and blasted me into oblivion again for the 2nd time with his hideous SPAMMAGE. I forever vowed revenge on the decaying hamster...
Go ahead. You can pity me.

You think that's bad luck @ the Deneb Run?
Deneb Run 23:
It was the last stretch to Corvus Hold. Monk had already finished first, and Leber was 20 seconds ahead of me. He jumped to Corvus Hold. And I waited...and no report of position! I knew what this meant, Leber had hit an ion storm! I instantly plotted a course with no roids and no chance of storm, knowing that I could easily beat Leber and get the extra 400k in prizes. But, alas...
A. It turns out Leber did not hit a storm, he just didn't report his position. I could see why, it's not like it's an important jump or anything, just the destanation sector...
B. 3 pixels of the planet Corvus prime jutted out into a sector along my path...and of course there was a storm.
So no biggie right? I don't get 2nd and it's not like I was going to anyway. But as I finally do jump into Corvus Hold, I begin racing towards the dock and out of the corner of my eye I see Dr. Lecter enter the sector as well. I took my chances and turboed at full speed into the dock and I made it! There was no way the Doc could have beaten me! ...by more than 1 second...

Deneb Run #18... My first race, and the race in which I made the offer which seems to have spawned the race pirate phenomenon.
Otherwise known as the Race of a Thousand Ion Storms...
I seemed to have hit every storm from Odia to Deneb. Final time: 56:27, and all the other racers had to wait all that time for me to make it, before the Halloween Bash could begin.
PS- Leebs, I still remember that bet we made. Maybe next week's run?
