Questions ...

Jan 20, 2006 thing link
Hi,

I'm new to these boards and sort of new to this game - though I played briefly during beta and alpha testing. For one reason or another I didn't get around to playing again though till recently. Have to say, first off, superb. VO reminds me a little of Elite, which is good since that's my favourite game of all time. It's also marvellous that it's cross-platform. Good job guys! I'm a Mac user exclusively so my MMOG options are very limited.

Anyway, I've a few questions which are mostly my curiosity ... wonder if someone would care to enlighten me on a few things!

Active players ... I note there seems very few (rarely seen more than 20) active players listed on the website link. Is this accurate? Seems a very low number for a MMOG. Not that it bothers me, just curious. I suspect such a small community is likely to be a lot friendlier than World of Warcraft (where I've been for the last 4 months) which, whilst it has a lot of nice folks, is peppered with kiddies too!

Missions ... I'm in the UK so figure I'm likely to be online before the place gets really busy (guessing VO is US based here) so wondered if the missions become more challenging with increased experience. I don't mind soloing at all, but would like to find I'm doing a little more than just basic 'go kill that' or 'go collect this' kind of missions. Any clues what to expect as my pilot gets more skilled please!

Finally for now ... again, as mentioned, I'm in the UK. Anyone else? Any UK guilds about? My main pilot (Helmut Icicle) is pretty basic right now, but will hopefully get better, and it'd be nice to get involved in player led stuff. My game time is pretty limited due to RL commitments (work, chores (hehe) and a 1 year old baby who's currently refusing to sleep a full night leaving my wife and I so knackered we're usually in bed by 10pm!) but it'd still be nice to get more involved if possible.

That'll do for now beyond saying good luck all and be well!!

Welcome to vendetta Greg :)

Ahh the return of the old players is always nice.. i have been at this game for 14 months more or less. i had to take a break from actual ingame time due to other games and the fact that not much happened in visible development activities for a few months. But i started playing more and more lately, and i find it so much more fun when things needs to be tested by the playerbase, and we get to see new things put into the game. Some of us are mildly addicted too :P

To anser your questions, the first one is YES, it is fairly accurate. At the moment it hover between 15 and 40 players on low and peak hours. There is a small income of new players on a regular basis but since this game is mostly known by word of mouth and players with spesific interests in space MMOs it hasnt recieved any commercials or ad campagns.. yet.. things will change Soon™ when the devs, deem this game ready to roll.
Note that there are many more subscriptions than players online as many in the community continue to support it, even thi they do not play on a daily weekly basis. What more fitting to say than this community is GREAT. Many skilled people would like to see this game become a success and not just the developers . So the forums are filled with whines and cheese, but also praise and recognition from newbs and veterans.

Missions. today there are a handful of missions, but to be honest as an long time player not very exiting missions or even remotely hard ones. Ex. kill x bots of y,z or q type and trade missions of fetch/deliver this to me/station X. All of them can be soloed and its a medium grind to get to all the equipment in the game. but you dont need the high end to pwn bots or players. many players have beaten me with far lower stats, just by maneuvering better and aiming for the kill..
But new tools have been made to make way for all new and exiting missions and content. Its what the devs have been cooking on for the last months and we are seeing small glimpses of it now. The fantastic thing with this, is the player generated missions, a web editor making it possible to create mission code to be ready and implemented on the production server in a very short time, a few hours of testing, approval and voila!

And lastly there are a fair ammount of european players, we cannot mach US in numbers on peak hours but still it should be enough players online to get a decent community experience, many of us are open to questions and provide help. Umm.. but dont expect to be lagged down by player traffic in wormholes

I hope this rater verbose post answered some of your concerns, and hope to cya ingame. And remember, better dead than red

Welcome!

Currently there are only about 20-30 people on most of the times I'm on...being Mac exclusive also...this is the most people I have ever played with at a time! The community IS great...I'm ruined for any other mmog...

As for the content, from what I hear that is about to explode...with the new mission editor coming in, as well as the new ships...the hive should start making tactical stabs as well...etc.etc...

You have returned at a very intresting time...as a 6 month newbie, I welcome you!

Well thanks for the response and welcome guys. Appreciated.

As I said I've not played this much in the last year, but have been avidly watching the website to see things change and develop. After spending a lot of time in WoW I recently decided I fancied a total change and this fits the bill. I think, over the weekend, I'll be paying up as a 'full' subscriber - hell, I'll have to my 8 hours is nearly up! Even gained myself a mentor last night ... and shot him by accident, oops.

One of the things that certainly appeals is the level of polish this game has. Whilst it's clearly still in development in some ways (and for that, though maybe controversial, I'd question it being 'commercial' at the moment) it's also obvious that it's going to grow fast. Personally I'd love to see it rival Eve Online - a game I can't play being PC only, but one my mate practically lives on. That's bugged to all hell, this seems really clean. It could certainly, for my taste, use more complex and challenging missions for the solo player but again I see that those are coming and agree with you two - the future of VO looks good.

I reckon I've picked a good time to get back into it ... see you all in space perhaps!

Welcome, thing! There's a good amount of European/UK players online at times I would guess correspond with after-work playing time.

The only guild I know which has a LOT of european players in it is Skygge Vakter [SKV], but that's an itani-only combat guild, built to kill Serco. I kind of doubt they'd welcome you in... hehe.

I'll send you a friendly Neut-3 greeting if I see ya ingame...

Well first and for most a very heartly welcome to Vendetta-Online from the states. Ill try to cover your questions to the best of my understanding.

The active player count usually ranges from 20 to 60 at one time, Vendetta is currently being revamped and improved by the developers therefore all advertising etc was called off, anf therefore the count dropped. After the revamp numbers in my estimate will be around 1000-2000 on any givin server, and perhaps the number will increasebeyond that, as Vendetta has a hands on skill approach to its gameplay rather than the tedious click and point grinding of WOW and EVE online.

Look forward to massive improvements in player counts a soon as the revamp is completed.

Missions are also currently being revammped and several new ones are being tested as part of a mission editor the devs have built to stream content into the Revamped Vendetta-online. Currently your stuck with the beginner combat missions and the trade/prospecting missions, however the testing ground in sedina k-13 is a much different story.

Heres what i'll suggest, get you levels up to around CL 3 LW 4 HW 3 TL 8 *trade comes quickly* and ML 5. After acquiring these levels I would strongy recommend travel out of Nation space and to Sedina in grey space. once there youll see some of the newer things in Vendetta. Right now your stuck killing dentek bots, in Sedina there is a hive hunt mission which brings quick cash and chances at killing Queens and Levi's, two major exp boosters. In Sedina there is also a common capital ship battle, between the Itani, serco, and UIT, each ship is larger than the largest stations and is truely a site to behold. As for new missions and difficulty as you go on. Yes things do get much harder and after CL 3 youll get the advanced combat mission, which will take some real skill to get through.

As for improvements, take a look at the new USER interface, a link should be on the front page, and several new ships and missions should be appearing within the coming months.

Hopefully that helped,

eh, I prefer

Combat 4
Light 4
Heavy 4
Trade 2

for grey space.

Cool, thanks folks.

I'm about 1/4 of the way there so Sedina will have to wait for a while. But then who knows ... might have a fair bit of time online tomorrow, depends on my wife's whereabouts! If she's off to her mother's as normal then I'm off the hook (a bit) for some of the 'honey bodge' (our equivalent of the famous 'honey do' lists) tasks awaiting me! Instead I can blag that I was working (I'm self-employed and work from home) whilst in fact I was gaming. Oh the deviousness!

Actually, she'd not mind at all if I spend all day gaming ... if she's out. If she's here, then so's my baby daughter ... not spending time with her because I'm working is ok, but gaming ... probably a hanging offence!

I have a question for you, thing. How could you insult a Dual 2ghz G5 (3 gigs of ram!) with a 5200? ;)
Jan 21, 2006 Morner link
agree with Momerath even though I hate Macs they don't deserve such an insult.
Jan 22, 2006 thing link
I agree totally momerath42 and Morner ... the video card I have is rubbish. However it was the 'stock' card fitted to this machine when I bought it (early '05) when Apple were still crippling their fast processor machines with under-achieving additions such as lousy video and insufficient ram.

Since I needed ram (for Photoshop work) over games performance and have a limited budget I had to go with the memory upgrade and leave the board. Hopefully I'll be upping it to something better soon (any suggestions welcome).

Whilst Apple are finally selling boxes with decent video boards they're still under specifying them in other ways ... I mean, all three G5 boxes ship with 512mb ram, pathetic. Especially given the price of ram - if not bought from Apple that is. Some things never change.

Hi everyone. Just stumbled onto this and Im looking for a Jumpgate type fix for a while. Im bored as hell of hack n slash wizard rubbish and we all hate SOE right?

Well UK based Ill give it a go when I get home and if its worth it I think I can bring some DND members to play for a while for the old space type fix. At a lose end , never know eh we were a big Jumpgate squad a few years back and I for one am looking for some time to kill. Maybe see you online uk timezone.

LMAO! I trained your butt!

As for your active players question, currently this game is considered a release beta. It doesn't have many of the major features that Guild Software will play on to grab player interest, so at the moment, we, the small dedicated player base, run around testing the game, inflating eachothers ego's, and waiting for the really cool shit to come out. Everquest started out this way, and its likely that WoW did as well.

In the end we'll be the equivilant of those crazy ass character on Everquest who have billions in cash, their own personal castles, and own their own citys. (Though I don't know if the citys thing is applicable in this case, I'm thinking more sector/station wise, which guilds at least will be able to purchase).
