Boring?
Hi guys!
I've played Vendetta Online for about one week (until the trial was over :P) like half a year ago, and i stopped playing because the game was really boring (Don't get me wrong, I love the atmosphere and all). There were only about 5 missions which had the objectives of killing bots, mining minerals and transporting stuff from one station to another...
Now as i quit playing WoW i thought about starting again with Vendetta Online, but I dont know if it still is that boring. Was it boring at all? Maybe i just didnt find the missions or something.
Can anybody tell me what you do all the time in Vendetta except for those 3 missions I've mentioned?
Greetings

Unlike most other games out there, VO doesn't require you to go through specific stages/screens in order to achieve things. On example that comes to mind is FreeSpace2. This thing is nicely done but the bugger wont let you go about your business and basically forces you into missions with very specific goals and paths.
VO lets you do what you want. You can use it for role playing and make your character progress on a more personal level through interaction with other players and guilds. but you can also use VO to make your character progress through a number of fields (combat, trade, mining etc). your character earns points wich, down the line, gives it access to higher licenses with gives it access to better/meaner ships or better mining equipment or even better prices for items sold at various stations.
VO is very free form. If you're looking for a game that will guide you and direct you into specific paths, then perhaps you want another game or find yourself in a guild that will give you specific objectives.
There are a number of missions that will give you short-time objectives. Some trade missions are even time based and you earn credits if you complete them before a given allotted time. Some missions are more involving like the Hive hunt/destruction and Border Batroll. These can get very intense. Other missions are more free-form, like Capture The Cargo (CtC) where you basically jump in into the action without actually requiring a mission being enrolled into.
Another such activity is the occasional Capital Ship wars where a number a players gather around for a large combat involving up to 3 capital ship (of either nations) and players. If you've ever wanted to be in a star wars-like battle, this can come close to it, depending on the number of players around.
The upcoming release near the end of the month (check out various forum posts about it in the General forum) will bring a lot of new material wich we're all very much excited about. New mission system, user-configurable missions, new ships, new interface, new bots & trader AI, new pirate missions are amongst the more awaited features.
Is VO boring? I personally think not, and it only gets more exciting with time.

a year ago? it is roughly the same except for the hive exists in sedina ( a more advanced way of the old bots behaving in a disease like way controlled by queens and governed by the levi)
however within the next month or so depending on things the devs are polishing up for us it should become much better with way cooler missions and much more potential.
I have been testing the new missions on the test server and they are awesome. no more stand alone player you can join missions in which you are part of a combined human/NPC squadron with a set purpose from escorting to piracy and to hive eradication! totally cooler than the "boring" missions you probably remember where the most intense mission was fighting off "some weirdo" so really you chose a good time to come back and take a look despite the complaints of others as of late it is really all going to come together for the greater awesome.

thanks to you two for your responses. That patch sounds great, and I'll probably take another look into VO!
One last question: Are there any Skills with which you can produce stuff or rather: Can I use metal I mine and pick up from destroyed ships for anything else than selling it?

not yet. However some of the underlying work the devs have been doing is intended to support some form of crafting in the future.

Also related to availability of materials (wich you can buy and sell to stations), a whole economy system is in the works.
As far as scrap metal objects from blown ship, you can cumulate them for a scavengin mission wich requires you to gatter large ammount of scrap metal. Kind of a prelude to object manufacturing in a way.

Still boring. I'd probably hold off until at least the new update comes out (end of Jan '06 at the very earliest, we hear) and probably for a few months past that, to let bugs purge themselves and some of this wonderful new content be created with all the new TOOLS that are currently being constructed.
actualy id recomend you start now, so that by the time the new content hits you will have goten throught the "grind" and be able to expierience more of it right away.
