Flying question

Jan 05, 2006 Jarfaru link
Hello everyone, I just picked up the combat training mission. I don't know what i'm doing wrong though. I'm strafing right and left but it seems to make me miss more than i hit. I've got blown up a few times but did kill a few bots. Any advice you have would be helpful.

The ' key switches between the two modes, flight assist and physics. Most people find physics mode to be much better for fighting.

Try using all 4 strafes, this will be easier if you rebind your keys in a better fashion, I suggest a/w/s/d for the strafes, and r/f for accelerate/decelerate

(me pokes the devs to make awsd for strafes default, its much more natural, and the players I've caught early and gotten to switch have all agreed)

then put your Flight assist toggle on the CTRL key, you WILL use this often.

When you get into a fight, try using combinations of strafes and rolls, do whatever works.

Extra Credit:
Notice how your inertia affects your shots, adjust for it, use it.

WASD controls are standard for most games, but must be adapted to your national keyboard (eg French dudes would use ZQSD).

Jarfaru, make sure that autoaim is turned on (you might have turned it off accidentally); the aiming reticle on your hud gets yellow when your target is within the autoaim cone.

I must be the only pilot that uses the num pad for all flight control, oh well : )

physics mode is your best friend when it comes to the combat mission, but in pvp you need to be able to use both at once for best results. Also, as mentioned, use the physics to your advantage and lead your enemy into your fire, don't try to hit them dead on, it won't happen unless you're under 100m.
