The Vendetta Online Update/Event email list
Has any newsletter ever been sent out to subscribers? I've never seen one. That would be nice, just to be notified that "Hey we released a new client update today yadda yadda..."
(Yeah, my user account info checkbox is clicked...)

Subject: Vendetta Online is about to launch!
You are receiving this as a past alpha or beta test user of
Vendetta Online. We wanted to tell everyone the good news: Tonight is the
last night of the beta, and we're going to launch on Monday the 1st. After
six years of labor and struggle to make this game, we're very happy to
be reaching this point. The game has come a long way, but where it goes
from here is the truly exciting part for us. We do not plan on our game
ever being "finished", we have so much that we want to add, and we're
thrilled at the prospect of adding it all.
In other news, we also have direct website orders online for users
with Beta accounts (login to the website and see Billing Options on the
let-hand sidebar menu). This has been much requested by our gaming
population both inside and outside of North America (especially in
Europe), due to the cost of shipping to those places. FYI, until midnight
CST tonight you can "pre-order" the game online by purchasing 3 months of
time for $26.99 (Major credit cards only for the moment, PayByCash later
this week). No retail purchase required. Any changes to your character
between now and then (we reset last night) will be rolled into the
production launch tomorrow. Note, if you can't purchase time until later,
your account and characters will still be there (with Alpha and Beta
awards). We won't wipe old accounts for some time yet.
Note: we will also be giving special benefits to people who have
subscribed longer, each time we add new content. Special ships, addons,
etc. Something for people playing for 6 months, 12 months, and so on.
But, even if you don't want to buy the game, we'd like to
encourage everyone to come online tonight for one last final send-off to
the Vendetta Test and Beta. We've made a lot of changes in the last few
weeks, including:
Nation-driven Cargo Conflict: The Itani and Serco both transport
xithricite ore from UIT space. These transports leave regularly (notice
on channel 201 and 202), and can be raided and stolen by either side.
Stats and weekly winner is tallied on the website (Cargo Stats page) and
the winning nation gains some special items in their homeland. This
conflict will be expanded soon to have more far-reaching manufacturing
impacts on items and prices for both sides.
Universe Redux (now more interesting)
New Stations
Interface tweaking
Automated traders between stations
Too many other things to list.
We're also very excited about what we have coming in the next few
weeks, including:
In-game news system: Headline / Article system which will tie into
everything from item prices at distant stations (items in demand or on
sale) to the Most Wanted list of bounties set by each Nation on the heads
of the most dastardly enemy pirates and marauders. Duel outcomes.
Privateering info on enemy freighter and transports. Weather (ion
storms). Commendations list for military action. Potentially even
character-submitted articles.
We're also looking at adding several new missions, increasing the
number and complexity of automated traders, adding mining-bots, etc. More
customized sectors will also appear.
Thank you for your participation in the Vendetta Online Test/Alpha
and Beta. You helped our engine become a very stable, solid product (even
across three platforms!), with good network performance. We hope you'll
stick around to see our game continue to evolve, but one way or the
other, thank you for your contribution.
We also plan to thank our long-standing Alpha users more
specifically, as well as those who, in the days of our imminent demise,
demanded a way to send us PayPal donations. Your spontaneous generosity
will always be remembered. We will send our thanks to those people in
separate emailings over the coming week.
And so it begins!

Edited to show date and subject title.
I've actually set up GNU Mailman within the last couple of months, for the purpose of doing a proper mailing list. I still have to work on customizing it to our needs a little more, but yes, a mailing list is something that's on the plate for the "Vendetta 2.0" situation.
We never had proper mailing list software before, which resulted in some embarassing situations where recipients with infected computers managed to post viruses to our list. So anyway, now that won't happen anymore. But I still need to make it a little simpler to unsubscribe, since I would rather err on the side of not-spamming as much as possible.
