Leave the station

Dec 23, 2005 csgno1 link
I'm playing around with loading commands from a file. Is there a command that will have me leave a station? I don't see one in the docs.

No there is not.

Considering how such a command could help in the creation of bots/macros, I think it's a very good thing.

It is, however, quite possible to do using false key/mousebutton presses.

I used my Nostromo software to create a mining macro. Once activated cargo jetisons every 30 seconds. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no use for mining....

applescript will do those mouse movement and presses for you. You can record that and then embedd the motion into a script to do other things.

I assume the suggestions forum gets read by a dev or representative of the devs, do we ever hear back? I'd like a "great idea we'll add it to the list" or "no chance of that!". Then I'd know when to stop bringing it up. :)

[edit: this sounds like a complaint but it was not ment to be]

Ooh, a two part question.

1) I don't think it's a matter of difficulty in adding the command, but a matter of whether it should be added. As was pointed out earlier, such a command would open (wider) the gates for macros and player-run "bots" that could have serious consequences within the game. It's complex in that manner.

2) Currently the Devs do read the Suggestions, but they can't reply to all of them. Keep in mind that many users would not be content with a simple "we'll add it to the list" reply. There would be the inevitable "When?", "Why haven't you...". There is talk of improving the Suggestions process to provide more feedback and insight into what suggestions are being considered for inclusion. There are no details to share on that yet.

Sadly, this thread isn't IN the Suggestions forum, so... ;P

I guess the question that comes to mind is, philosophically, do the devs want to discourage or encourage scripting? I think it would add a lot of fun to the game for me personally, but I'm a programmer. I have ideas for some useful or just plain funny behavior I can create. Knowing the answer to this question, I would know wether to shut up about it or propose some ideas. :)

propose the ideas, don't expect anything from those ideas to come to fruition. And shut up then.

if it happens, be pleasantly surprised, if it doesn't happen... no let down seeing as you didn't expect it to come to bear anyway.

um, have you tried command L while not in chat?

Harpo means as a Vendetta lexical command, such as hudtoggle. There is no such type of command for undocking, but there is a key command as you point out. That command can't be put into binds though, which is what Harpo wants. We could make something automated that uses that key command, but that requires sending "fake" events which Celkan already suggested.

I was experimenting with a friend one time regarding what can be accomplished with two ships when one pilot is afk. I started a little remote control script. To make it useful, an un-dock command is key, and if mining/trading is involved a jettison command is also. Jettison can be gotten around by blowing up the ship, but then I need to un-dock again :) I guess I could avoid the need for un-dock with jettison and flying carefully. Movement has enough commands already I believe.

[edit] actually when a ship blows up we are prompted to buy back last ship. A setting in the client to assume yes or no would be wonderful.

Reviewing this thread reminds me to ask if there have been any commands added with the new client? :)

...or keypresses added back?

Command-L does not work for me. Maybe it's the new UI.
