Sector 10

Apr 25, 2003 Usafunrunner link
Is it just me, or does something have to be done to the base in sector 10. I went in fine, but got caught and couldn't move after leaving the station. I think another ship was in the way, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else had problems with this?

I've had traffic there quite a bit.
Also, the Vulture does not fit in that station.

The idea of the integrated station is cool, but there needs to be some modifications (for one, all the ships need to fit in).

yes, that is a serious problem with sector 10 station. I hope it gets fixed soon. (where you undock and spawn inside someone else)

agreed

Just as a note I have spawned inside antother player in sectors 14, 7 and 13 also .. any time the area is busy, you can get stuck inside someone else because those stations have so few places to put ships that are leaving.

You can get stuck in any ring stations (like the one in 14) because they have 1 exit, if someone sits in the spawn area for over 4 seconds they should go boom, this would be a nice solution for campers too.

The sector 10 station will be improved in the next update. All ships should be able to fit. (Though it'll still be tough navigating a Centaur through those tunnels...)

Centaur is easy to get in and out, with this update it'll be a piece of pie!
mmm pie

It's not the navigation that's the problem. People just need to learn how to pilot their ships better.

=b

It's just the dock. It orients you incorrectly when you come out. That's all.

Grrrrr, I think traffic needs more space too, cuz Arolte rammed me as I was heading out of stat 10. My pizza cutter bounced all around that little area then....BOOOOM!!!!! "Scuba Steve (9.0)" is having issues :O

LOL! I had no idea how I did that. I was in a bus too. I just tapped you lightly and I saw you fly across my screen like crazy. Ok... there probably needs to be two lanes for ships to come in and out. A more rectangular shaped tunnel perhaps. But still, I like the idea of having only small ships fit in there. What I was thinking, for example, was for the station to have really valuable widgets to sell, but since the tunnel is so small only fighters will be able to get in there to purchase them. That way you could only a small quantity of these valuable widgets at a time and not make an insane profit. Good profit, but not overly huge. It could be one of the few times when fighters could be use as trading ships too.

Sadly, sector 10 isn't that great. For the time it takes to get in there, the widget prices really aren't worth the effort. And there's no discounts on guns. :(

oooh you just gave me a really good idea.... maybe make like a sector-10-like station/asteroid.... but make it a HUGE maze (maybe even a good place for a battle...?). Perhaps you could even make it a shifting/changing maze so that you can never memorize the way to the station. And have the station do exactly what you say - discount on guns... great widget prices... etc. Maybe even an exclusive ship...?

- Bah... its a pretty lofty idea. Probably wouldn't ever work.

.....And then you see my pizza cutter, endleesly bouncing off the walls for the rest of eternity.....
DARN YOU AROLTE!!

Hazaanko, you have been reading the archives to long you idea theif!! I posted that idea!, well i posted the idea of hollow asteriods then raybondo posted how he wanted to do one maze like a la descent but there arn't enough weeks in a month

Humper, where did you get a pizza cutter? they're gold only

I swear I didn't know!

Heh, once they get the engine to handle multiple stations per sector, we could put into action a working space mine. Have about four stations seeded throughout a large roid, some deeper in the caves than others, that provide varying grades of ore. The trick would be to make the tunnels too tight for all but a tiny little ship purpose-built and sold at what we'll call the refinery, a scaled-up version of the Ceres-type station orbiting about 600m from the roid. The trick would be controlling the space between the roid exit and the station enterance, and protecting your unarmed mining ships laden with cargo until they could dock.
