ATTN DEVS/GUIDES: Guild Maintenance Issues

Dec 05, 2005 Gavan link
Ok so, as most people know, Syn fell apart during this last week due to a supposed lack of council/active members. While I understand that there is a policy in regards to this sort of situation, I don't understand the situation in which it was decided that Syn should be deleted.

There are at least 6 other guilds (BoTH, BOFH, BETA, BP, GOLD, MP, ME, NEW) which have absolutely no prescence anymore (save BoTH, but thats another issue in itself), do not maintain either the minimum slate of council members orgeneral members (both in some cases). Yet these guilds remain.

Is the choice to delete a guild an automated action? If so, then there is a bug.

Or is it something that one of the guides or devs takes care of? In which case this situation makes very little sense.

Some clarification on this issue would be helpful.

As far as I can tell from existing discussion.. who? me? left the council, and the guild auto-dissolved due to an insufficient number of council members. We can look at it on Monday afternoon. We'll check to see if there's some discrepancy or bug in the auto-deletion code.

We (devs or guides) did not remove the guild, or anything like that.

I'd already spoken directly to Doukutsu directly (in-game) about this the other day, and responded to his post here: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/7/9899?page=2

In short, I let him know that I can't fix a dissolved guild, and that I would inform the Devs.

Hehe. I think I can guess why some guilds with less than its minimum number of Council members are still alive while Syn poofs. The difference is that those "dead no-council" guilds which are still alive have had their council members DELETE their characters, while for Syn who? me? LEFT. There must be a missing piece of code somewhere in the char delete section that allows dead guilds to live in limbo (which, by the way, officially does not exist anymore.)

Ok, speculation over. Back to the salt mines!

actually softy might be on the right track.

Unless there is an active query to the /guild part of the code it might not update the status of the guild.

It's kind of like the way a station currently doesnt update the mission list unless you take a direct action that calls the mission code.(sedina is a good example where players have the ability for "hive hunt" missions to continue to exist for a person who has been docked even if the mission has been completed by someone else.)

I think /buddy does the same thing, I have people in my buddy list who have deleted thier characters, but it doesn't reflect that because the code for the buddy list doesnt get accessed when a character is deleted.

I really hope no-one's planning to use the buggdness of the other guilds to justify the re-establishment of this guild because a feature actually worked for once.
