I haven't scaled it yet. But it won't be terribly large. Probably comperable to a Vulture or some such.

Haha, you rock inc!

Beolach,

i don't see any need for the free ships to have different stats, just different names and apperences, i mean they are the equivelent of the "soap-box" or "bath-tub" shuttelecraft that you start out with in the Escape Velosity series. as long as they look different they will be perceved differently, regardless of stats, besides the free ships aren't used by most players who ca buy anything better.

incarnate,

i'd say the similarity goes beyond the signatire of the artis in this case (not that that is bad nesesarily) and in truth i think they both look prety cool. anyway, the bigest features that make it look like a mini TPG destroyer is the engin configuration, and the similarity in color scheam. the later will presumably be a non issue once it can be painted any color on the swatch board, but the former should be conciderd for future work (but i'm probably telling you things you alrady know so i'll stop now)

Mixed feelings.

On one hand, I'm extremely pleased with this sort of development. It gives a lot of things to look for in the foreseeable future. It's superb. Like the Trident and TPG Destroyer, it shows a profound step up in the quality of the designs and "natural evolution" of ships coming out of this universe.

On the other hand, I feel a bit sad to keep seeing these way cool thingies that are to come. So far, in the line up, are

The Capital Ship, whose partly available (aka, we can play with them but not own/drive them)
The Trident only seen once as far as I know
The TPG Destroyer (whose news/planted rumour was very nice and enticing BTW)
The Raptor whose announcement came out of no where, totally unexpected and perhaps Too Soon (tm).

I say too soon because all of these cools things seem to rely on the forthcoming New User Interface (tm).

We're all waiting for the TPG Destroyer and Trident, let alone the Capital Ship. It's almost sad that we now have to wait for the Raptor too.

Strange feeling eh? But I think it would have been more of a surprise if it had been rumoured like the TPG Destroyer was. Perhaps even only after the new UI was released. It not like we dont have other things to look for (3 ships in the lineup for now).

Like it said, it looks superb. And the level of Things To Come and excitement these new toys bring is excellent. But we'll need to taste some of that soon to keep stress/envy at an acceptable level (my family doc did say my tension was limit!).

I dont use vult's rogue, so even if I did read everyship thingy ( I've only read ONE, old habbits (from alpha) die hard)

Anyone got a spare trash barrel around here? I think my mouth just lost the ability to regulate drooling...

Nice!!! is it TPG also?
Nov 20, 2005 Harry Seldon link
Yup.

"And, since they do look relatively similar, I'm (so far) making them all TPG ships.. that adds to the "makes sense" side of similar looking ships all built by the same faction."

It looks great, it sort of looks like a cross between a Prometheus and the TPG Destroyer. A couple of questions though; where are the gun ports? And (you've probably already thought of this) but could it be used as the new newbie ship? It would sure impress the hell out of new time players. Lastly other ships to date have had cockpits, this seems more like an artistical or conceptual thing, but where does the pilot sit/see out of?

She looks great!

How about..... if we've spent at least 1000 hours playing VO we can use the ship.

I'm a beta and all but this would probably be better for ppl who would complain.

mouser: so.. you'd rather I *didn't* announce things? Like not until they're done or something? I mean, I do this as part of the whole.. keeping you guys in the loop on what we're doing, and so forth.

Besides, the destroyers and the trident and such require the whole "cap ship interface" stuff which isn't going to show up immediately, but this ship could conceivably be pilotable as soon as it's in the client.
Nov 20, 2005 Borb II link
Heh, I like how you devs keep us in the loop the more the better.

Eeeek! We [I] love how we [I] are [am] kept in the loop!
Nov 20, 2005 mgl_mouser link
No quite Incarnate.

i'm very happy that you do announce things. but, this particular announcement perhaps was somewhat prematured. Given that *current* things were on the announced list.

We're all pretty worked up with the TPG Destroyer and the new UI.

I just think that no new wood was required to revive the flame--yet. Perhaps what I felt is that we're happy with current known progress and we just want to toy with these things as soon as possible (but not sooner).

And that perhaps the (TPG) Raptor (and perhaps others?) could have been announced after whatever thing comes next (either UI, Trident, Destroyer or else).

Again, we're happy that you folks do great things and are forthcoming. But perhaps the way the Destroyer was previewed was a better way to let us know things were happening without actually revealing the whole deal fair and square.

"Besides, the destroyers and the trident and such require the whole "cap ship interface" stuff which isn't going to show up immediately, but this ship could conceivably be pilotable as soon as it's in the client."

Now THAT is information that perhaps should have been said before, wich makes this thing more interesting event. because now we know this new ship is not dependant on new UI stuff.

On that note, is the Trident really not pilot-able without the new interfrace? I though it was a ratter small thing (2 seater?).
Nov 20, 2005 incarnate link
The trident is a cap ship, and is intended to use the cap ship interface, not the standard piloting mechanism. It's unwieldly to pilot through the normal mechanism, although not as bad as the Nemesis class.

Yeah I'd like a scale representation (even if it's just a sketch in photoshop) 'cause the engines look EXACTLY like the engines on the TPG Capship. Same size as a vult? Whoa that's a nicely detailed small ship.

Pretty nice, I especially like the idea of using different real-life artists for the inspiration behind differing ingame factions.

Thats cool, cant wait for it :)

I love this game!

If it was that or a vulture, I'd grab a vulture,

the thing looks cool, but a bit difficult to dodge in.

Unless its a kickass chase ship.....?
