Hive Queen + Entourage + Tutorial Mission = *BOOM*
Here's the probability that a new player/character will run into a Hive Queen on their tutorial mission while killing the GuideBots in each starting system.
Most Dangerous/Likely
Itan = 1/170
Dau = 1/195
Arta Caelestis = 1/205
Pyronis = 1/206
Sol II = 1/212
Eo = 1/217
Divinia = 1/229
Least Dangerous/Likely

Haha, interesting. Seems a bit small though... >_>
Hmmm should it just be 1/number of empty sectors in that system?
No, one over empty sectors squared.
You're picking one sector out of those for the tutorial, and one for the hive queen. Two separate calculations.

Learn the math Celkan. Although you are technically correct that you must square it, you must then repeat and add for each empty sector. So (ie) for Itan: 170/170^2. Which comes down to 1/170.
Probability is equal to (number of situations where the event will happen)/(possible events). The possible events would be 170(number of places queen would be)*170(number of places Tutorial could be). But the hive queen and tutorial could be in the same place in 170 different situations (number of sectors both queen and tutorial could be). 170/(170*170).

Yeah, fooz is right, its just 1/170.
1/170^2 total possibilities, with 170 possible locations for the tutorial.

Isn't the tutorial mission set to check if the sector has a queen in it?
Maybe once :D
I think it was supposed to be, but apparently not. Let's just say it happened in Pyronis last night.
Woot!
Great way to get introduced to Hive Queens, eh?

Yeah, we need to fix that when we redo the newbie systems and push more towards the hive-based ideals. Newbie + Queen = Bad. Thanks for the heads up, Celkan.
No problem :)
though, new players *LIKE* seeing a huge ship tower over them...and they get pwnd. it shows that there IS something to work up to.
a way so n00bs can see some 'o the cool stuff without being pwnd...
like has been suggested, some kind of fast ship with no weapon ports. or a spectator mode, or even better and harder to do, a way of posting movies on the news, that'd be kickass (post the newset battle vs the levi or something like that)

We've wanted to do battle recordings and then play them back later for ages. It's totally doable. It would just take some time to implement and make work properly. They would only be playable in-game, of course, since they'd be "recordings" of network traffic and wouldn't be actual movies, and they'd be dependent on the user's computer for how fast they worked, but we could totally link them in-line in in-game newsposts and stuff.
Definitely something we'd like to do at some point.

ohhh you could finally have proof with all and any bounties and HOW it was done. hehe...
no more glory talk for cheap setups...

Too bad the process of killing a hive queen isn't all that exciting.
I've got some videos from Fraps of the Levi (pre-gauss weapons).

huh, so then we can finaly have a tutorial movie? you'd only have to say how high...and we'd be there
