Cogent Fiber Cut
Just saw some notices on Internet Storm Center http://isc.sans.org and elsewhere stating that some time in the last 12-24 hours Cogent lost not one, but two fiber backbone connections, which has been causing disruptions on many Internet routing paths. Thought people might like to know about this and possibly share any odd connection issues they may have noticed.
Obviously, if you can reach this forum or log on to VO, it's either been fixed or you are not on a path through one of the cut links. Strangely, my ping times from traceroute on the command line to the production server seem better now than usual. Probably due to the reduced traffic heading through Cogent's core routers.

Nice heads up, greengeek
It looks to me like Cogent is still passing traffic, though with reduced capacity with a 65% packet forward success rate. Other providers experiencing increased latency through Cogent are AT&T, Sprint, Verio, and particularly hit hard is UUNet.
New York looks like it's the most affected location with a round trip time through UUNet of an astounding 600ms. Their Los Angeles location seems to be taking up the slack.
Thank you, Internet
