Wow, thats some heavy shiate. What are Levi's making neutron matter?
Or, if no samoflange is availible, I suppose a newbie could opt for the poor-man's alternitive: VanAzek Ore. =P

Samoflange is an inside joke, and the Levi isn't really supposed to drop it, but it does. So there you go.
Yeah, I forgot about the 3 minute thing. Oops.

So one of the devs decided to put an easter egg in the game or something? I definitely like it.
Miharu found a reference to samoflange in the old "Thundercats" animated TV show out-takes, apparently. Dunno if that's where the devs got it from. [EDIT: Damnit alkon beat me to it as I was calculating tons and Newtons & stuff...]
[EDIT2 - damnit he got the direct link as well! GAH!]

To me, "Samoflange" sounds like the devs were drunk one night and were going to make a "Some Camouflage" widget but mis-spelled it and forgot about it until it popped up in the game 6 months later, and they left it in as a joke.
But anyway, samoflange is useless except for a "prestige" 8000 kg cargo widget, but you can load up a beghemoth with 120 cu of samoflange (you'll weigh almost a million kg then - 1100 tons) and RAM things to cause awesome damage/send it spinning. Used on big & slow things like the Leviathan and capships.
If my math is right...
You hit with the force of 32 billion Newtons, or 3.6 million tons of force...
(Using US short tons here...)
It's like getting hit in the face by the Hubble Space telescope, or 323 Cadillac Escalade SUV's all at the same time...

Workaround:
Scoop up a ship-full and jettison it... keep going until all cargo is jettisoned by you. It will stay for 15 minutes from the time it is jettisoned by you.

Well no one picked it up, but we were jumping in the sector, and it disappeared within five minutes. Please, just give me my Samo!
We heard those outtakes loong ago (I remember hearing them in the mid/late 90s), and it became an inside joke. I hear World of Warcraft has it too, although they spell it differently. We had it first though, unless some MUD beat us to it.
It has no real point. But it's best to keep your foot off of it.

Do stations pay ANYTHING for it? :D

I just wanted to say thank you for finally agreeing to some small portion of my Janitorial role suggestion thread.

Haha, I finally listened to those out takes, those guys do NOT sound happy with their job.
"What the F*CK is a samoflange?"
Well, I got 32 of it thanks to a1k0n, but I was supposed to get 61...*hint hint*
And there's also that stasis pod that the queen stole from me, I'd still like to sue her.

a1k0n said We haven't touched the cargo timeout times that I'm aware of. It's fifteen minutes, except if the sector shuts down (five minutes of inactivity) they're all gone.
Well, there there is a bug. I lost CtC cargo in a storm in Pelatus last week. I was based in Jallik so it was a quick turn around. By the time I got there, less than 5 minutes, it was gone. No one claimed it either as no cargo delivery announcement sounded until the nest batch wich was ours again.

As Mogul said, CtC is also affected by this.
And as far as outtakes go, everyone should watch the outakes from the Breserk anime, good stuff there. I'd post a link but since they are on the dvds.. I'd rather not.

A1k0n told me last night that bot cargo goes bye-bye in 3 minutes, so that fits my story
I really hate this cargo-go-puff thing.
There's no imaginable clue that I can think of that would make that even remotely believable that a 1-ton ore shipment can disappear without leaving a trace.
If only it was some NPC scavengers racing for free-floating crates.
If objects are to dissolve in space, it should take more than 3 minutes for them to do so.

the 3 minute thing is an ancient temporary fix to a problem with bot dropped cargo that just never got changed back.
I'm sure it will be corrected.
I'm sure it will be corrected.
Does this correction include giving me my lost Samo?
To any Dev: since you have already included a hyperdense and ultrarare widget in the game (i.e. "that damned samoflange!"), once crafting is implemented, could you integrate it? Being as heavy and (limited to the same volume of 1cu) dense as it is, it seems like samo would be an ideal element for some more advanced crafting creations...
No! This is a bad idea!
Cargo should last for 1000 seconds which I think is about 16 minutes, unless someone who's not me changed it.
If everyone leaves a sector for 5 minutes (I think, unless the dev code accidentally got released into production [again]) the secor process shuts down and all floating cargo gets deleted.
I've been wanting to save that info but that's pretty low on my priority list right now.
Anyways, I talked with Smittens and the samoflange issue is resolved.

if nobody picked up the cargo, then how do you know there were 61 units of it?
