http://lostgarden.com/2005/10/game-business-model-learning-from.html - What The Game Business Could Learn From Touring Bands.
Interesting article. It focuses on "Village Games", a class of which Vendetta is a member.

Cool article. I've made the band analogy many times myself, although more in terms of the "feeling" of our particular company. With a group of friends who have been generally "making stuff" together since high school.. we often seem to have a lot more in common with bands than with other game developers.
The point about being motivated by love rather than money is pretty dead on as well. I think that's a necessity with this type of model .. perhaps beneficial in all models, but a requirement in this one.

(Get it STRAIGHT, nut!)
Lessons from article:
1) Build a BRAND.
2) Make lots of money from your loyal & dedicated playerbase. (operate either a micropayment or a subscription model that doesn't cap the amount of money the customer wishes to spend. I.E. Merchandising)
3) Provide excellent service and product.
I like the comments from one of the posters, "Ian":
2) When you're hiring new recruits, the odds are good that you'll find some great prospects in your existing player community. These people are already passionate about your game, so they're less likely than the original team to burn out.
Anyway, thanks for the link to the article, ctish. Outstanding.

I've got some unofficial ones over here:
http://www.cafepress.com/uitgifts
http://www.cafepress.com/sercogifts
Of course, they're unofficial, so they're set to sell at manufacturing cost. If I could find a way to reliably transfer money to Guild directly, I'd add a profit margin and send it all to them.
Oh, and I am working on Itani shirts, I just have to draw up a national logo.

Okay, I have a prototype drawn up. What do y'all think of this for a logo?
Wait wait, itani's are buddhists... what's with the yin-yang? That's more of a serco symbol.
Huh? Oh, heh. I never noticed that it looked like a yin-yang. I suppose the symbol is Serco-ish, representing the balance between flesh and machine. Interesting idea.
If I don't put that in the center, what should go there? It looks awfully bare with just the blue.

I don't know... I just don't like it that much. Too... bland and not enough Itani, but I can't put my finger on it.
I know what its missing, some kinda motto, or logo, like uhum "recedo inclino semper" or "pullus R nos" or, i dunno, you get my point, heh
Nice hijacking...
Is it really a hijacking if I'm doing it to my own thread?
Jex: That's what you get when you let a Serco design it. :P Got a suggestion? Put it forth and I'll try to work it in.

What's it a logo FOR? Vendetta?
If so I think it's crap. Nothing about it says "Kickass PvP Combat" or "Space" or "MMORPG". I don't get any yin-yang out of it either.
Okay, it's not CRAP, but it looks like some generic line art you get out of the "100,000,000 Images CD collections, ALL on 38 DVD's!"
