ok so stop bumping threads when you lock them. aint there a way to do it without bumping all that trash?

[FM replies: Sure there is, but it can be a little confusing. People have asked that some sort of explanation be given when a thread is locked. If we post an explanation, that bumps the thread. Adding on to the last post is the only other way. Is this really an issue? Are there any examples of long-dormant threads being randomly locked? The only ones I've seen have been exhumed by somebody else first.]
