How to join the test server?
Distress call.
I read somewhere that you simply add "test:" (no quotes) in front of your username to join the test server. Doesn't work for me.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to use my usual password or something different?

That only works if you are in the image on the test server. if you have recently added an account you may not be on the test server image (yet).
From the News posts:
Tuesday, July 26, 2005 Hive Update
We're making progress on the Hive. We ran into some trouble with writing out persistency information to the database, but those problems have now been solved. We would like people to get on the test server and give the Hive a shot. It's located in Sedina (Stronghold location moves once it's destroyed), and the test server can be accessed by prepending your login name with "test:". Ie, I login with test:Incarnate. It is a different server, so any server-specific firewall rules will require alteration.
The Test server uses a snapshot of the production database. So, only people who have a paid account at the time of the snapshot will be able to play. To open it up to as many as people as possible, we'll be doing a database snapshot tonight.
There's still some development left to do with the Hive (server optimizations and bot behavioural improvements), but we're currently shooting for a Production release of the Hive this coming Monday.
In other news, the Mission Editor is being made production-ready as well, so we will hopefully be seeing new missions pop up sometime soon.

Ah. I've only had my account about three weeks, so I'm probably not on the list yet. At least I know I wasn't doing it wrong.
If I'm still not able to log on after another couple of weeks, I'm going to Get Nasty. $24.99 worth of nasty.
Until then, I'll Be Nice and hope somebody In Authority spots this post. :)

hey, when I try to log on to the test server like that, I wind up on the regular server... is there a reason for that?
