A place for lower level players to duke it out

B-8 is filled with high level players. Killing bots to get to those levels can be tedious and boring. I think Sedina 0-6 would be a good place for lower level players to meet and fight/duel. That way we can take a break from killing Guardians and Tycorp Assaults and learn some real fighting skills from others, without getting blown to bits in just a few seconds.

also.. a good idea would be to ask one of the high level players for a little 1 on 1 coaching.. most of us are perfectly willing to jump over to a quiet sector and offer advice.

The best way to learn IS to fight people who are a lot better than you, then ask for pointers afterwards.. you dont gain skill killing someone who is also learning how to fight.. you can learn more from loosing to a vet than winning against another new player..

Have fun. B-8 isn't officially endorsed. It used to be as empty as any other sector. It just... became popular. Go get a perpetual buswar going in O-6, and perhaps it will also. I'd reccommend not using Sedina for low-level players, though. Too much temptation for a higher-level player to come in and get some easy PKs. Perhaps, um, Bractus?

My suggestion would be Bractus E2...its got essentially the same setup as Sed B8, and the newbies can shoot down the Itani convoys just like the high level B8ers do to the Serco convoys!

I think anywhere on the convoy route is going to be a bad place for new players to fight each other... eventually a convoy is gonna come through and the convoy bots are gonna have a field day, or pc's escorting the convoy will..

maybe a quiet sector off in a corner of odia..

Bractus E2. Its the only place that will work!

Wait! I think Mar Ani has an ulterior motive!

Spell said it right, fighting the higher level players is really the best way to get better. Although learning how to take on a bot transport and all it's support bots at once is also quite helpful for pvp, with all the dodging and target aquisition that's necessary. But if your looking for a good newbie battleground, why put it even deeper into grey space then sedina. Latos or Ukari would be better. Perhaps not quite as close to the itani side but they can go though UIT space if necessary. There is nothing in Bractus worth flying unless you are already high level.

I think some scouting maybe inorder to find the right place. Alot can be learned by fighting higher level players, but how I understand it, alot of the skills for PVP are acquired through experience and reputition. I can go out and fight a high level player for about 15-30 seconds. I might learn a tip or two, but by the time my skills have improved I would have gone through a bazillion ships. Or I could fight someone my level in a match that lasts longer and have a better chance to learn from my mistakes. The problem though is finding people around my level to fight. All the people I see are either 9/9/9 and higher or 1/1/1 and below. And fighting bots gets old. That's why I think having a gathering point like B8 for the lower levels would rock. Just a good place to hold it needs to be found. I don't even know if there are many players between levels 3-9.

1) PvP Fighting ability/skill has NOTHING to do with your levels. (Well, except for the fact that the good players rack up a lot of XP and tend to have higher levels.) Plenty of people have incredibly high levels but no real PvP skills. Conversely, plenty of players have barely achieved level 4 pilot and can beat 75% of the people ingame. I love twitch combat.

2) Fighting the best players is the ONLY way to get better. I'll bet UncleDave has 100 more PK's thanks to me. I think I got better from fighting him constantly. (I think.)

3) Death Means Nothing™. Die a lot. It's fun. There's no penalty! Well, except for your pride/ego. Luckily I have neither.

1.) Skill levels dictate ships, weapons, ect. that are available. Which they don't make you better skilled, but can have a great impact on a fight.

2.) Fighting period can make you a better player, just getting experience in will help alot it doesn't have to be gained fighting the best. Especially when the matches last longer than ten seconds.

3.) I don't care about dieing in game. And I've build up enough to cash to lose several of them. Its the fact that matches don't last long against most high level players and there is only so much you learn from instruction. And bots aren't the best to learn these skills off of.

I think having an area where newer players can take things they have learned from more experienced players and try them out against people on a more level playing field is a great idea, especially if a few higher level players started hanging out there and observing/mentoring/instructing the new players.

The only thing is that I don't know how many players fall in the grey area between complete newb and experienced player. And how many of those players would be interested in such a thing.

1) eh, sorta true, I usually level my alts to combat 4-5 and just forget leveling the rest, really, a vulture with neutron blasters is about all you need for good practice

2) Yes, experience is vital, and fighting people who have fought a lot WILL help, but not if you just get waxed 2 secs into a fight.

3) I need to start up the combat classes again, they were an environment where a lot of inexperienced players could get together and fight together, but where experienced players could give advice during the fights.

Heck, the levels mean SQUAT in this game. Last night I beat Spellcast while I was on a 1/1/1/3/1 acct, and I was in a Corvus-obtained Vult with dual Yellowjackets. My first PK on that acct, and it's a vet. w00t!

Yellowjackets? Methinks Spellcast must have been AFK...
Oct 12, 2005 terjekv link
if you're AFK, you're sitting still. at which point Yellowjackets hardly hit. you mostly have to ram those things to die.

I'm thinking Spell was trying to ram the missiles to death.

i was coasting slowly and helping a noob with a question.. I was hardly paying attention to beeps, missiles or anything else.

I'm sorry, Spell, but a person hardly has a right to complain if they decide that B8 is a good spot to cut thrust and help a newbie over channel 100.
Oct 12, 2005 Spellcast link
i'm not complaining.

i'm pointing out that you dont have a lot to gloat over.. theres a subtle difference.
