Community Made Movies

Oct 04, 2005 Starfisher link
After seeing Ghost's movie and remembering all the ones that have been made in the past, I thought I'd make a thread to act as a repository. The search function is a little tough to use if you don't know a specific phrase from the thread in question, so post links here if you have movies. I'll check the thread daily and put them in the top post.

I put semi-joking descriptions in for the people who's vids I know about. Feel free to post with a correction ;)

Format:

V'Shjaar made a "Vendetta Online Movie Club" site, but I haven't seen him post here in the forums recently, so I dunno if he still plays or maintains that site or anything... anyway, there are some nice movies here:

New one comming soon. See community projects thread for more details. I haven't even had free time to play vendetta lately though so it may be a few weeks or so before I actually get started.

You're gonna have to ask yodaofborg for the link to mine. I checked the original link that yoda sent me and it's broken now.

Your CtC movie is on the http://vendetta.crawl-forever.com site, CP. It's one of my favorites.

All the ones I have: http://mandalor.homelinux.net/vendetta/videos/

What's that you say? You want me to make a pretty index file telling which video is which? I'm far too lazy for that... maybe later.

Beo I'll make a pretty index file FOR you if you don't mind the bandwidth hit of hosting all of this stuff.

Ok, which of those are MOVIES that someone put a little post-production effort into? A Fraps capture of a random event doesn't really count as a movie, in my mind. That's a gameplay video or something. I'm not trying to be an elitist film snob here, but the effort it takes to make something like Ghost's movie is a lot greater than what it takes to do a capture and slap a track on top.

I'll watch them when I get back to my apartment later...

@LeberMac: I can take the bandwidth hit just fine. Mandalor.homelinux.net is my box at home, my ISP limits my bandwidth usage to 25GB per week (and they don't count during the night or weekend), which I never get close to using (last week I was just over 1 GB). A bigger concern in my mind is that I'm currently on DSL, so my upload is at best 768 Kbps. But that's workable, if not very fast, and sometime soontm I should hopefully be getting fiber, and have 15 Mbps upstream.

@Starfisher: Heh, picky, picky! A bunch of them don't even go to the trouble to "slap a track on top". So yeah, they're just gameplay videos, but those are fun, too. The yodia ones are funny memory edits. dt.mp4 is Solra going far away from the WH in Sedina B-8, avdcomi is the Advanced Combat Mission, fnugget_movie_01 is a bunch of ships flying around and shooting and stuff, but it has a really cool special effect on jumping, fnuggets_rarely_scene is a close-up of a Hive Queen, the levi-attack ones are circle-strafing stations (what did you expect?)....

The ones that might be considered "movies" to varying extents would be Fade_to_BLAK, TribalWar (TribalWarQT.mov & tribalwarmpg.mpg are the same movie, just different encodings), Vendetta_movie, crippledpigeon_movie_01 (this is one of the big ones I'd like to see people do some voice-overs for), threenat.mpg, and vendetta.wmv.

Hehe. I guess we don't have as many movies as I thought :/

Damn I wish I had the time to make another one. It was hard, but man was it fun.

In progress. =)

Hey Ghost whats the name of the tune in your video?, I really liked it. Actually for one who generally dosent like poetry I also enjoyed the Greek poetry, overall verry well done.

Fade to blak was rather well put together, but I never really dealt with any of those players other than running from tumblemonster though in a different game I saw the same thing happen; in a short while people who have been playing mobfather for about 3 years all started to quit as the rules were nolonger enforced and R/L graft took over the way the game works.

I'm currentley working on downloading trabal war thats gonna take a while /me rolls eyes

EDIT: I'd like to see sombody try to use mason williams's classical gas in a video because its an interesting song.

The tune is the theme from Requiem for a Dream

Thanks Ghost.

I found the actual name of the band by doinf an @find on #mp3addicts (efnet) for Requiem for a Dream: Clint Mansell (Featuring Kronos Quartet). Should be good Quake2 music as well.
