Bugs.
HEHEHEHehehehe... seriously, just leave it the way it is now. Players want to be able to kill a bunch of bots. In every RPG or MMORPG I've ever played, players can cut swaths through armies of NPCs. People want that feeling, so long as the bot at least appears to put up a good fight. What we've got going now is perfect. They do damage, they fly in a way that feels more real, even if it isn't, and you can kill a bunch. Endless fun!

What I find fascinating is how the bots normally charge up to you and furball you but every so often there's one that hangs back and snipes. When you go after it then another gets on your tail. That's awesome and very similar to fighting two players.
I think I recall one of the devs remarking that the bots were "learning" at one point or another ingame. Maybe I mis-read it. :)
From YOU okay?! They learn paths from watching you!
That's how we got around the "crackbotting" phenomenon. Players in cracks have bots who go in cracks.

They learn paths through sectors but not tactics?
