Is this really worth a thread?

You've been here long enough to expect this, ananzi. What's the point of this thread?
Sep 16, 2005 a1k0n link
It's a pretty obvious metaphor.
Sep 16, 2005 roguelazer link
And a pretty rude one. Do the devs owe him anything in particular? No...
Sep 16, 2005 Starfisher link
Yeah, but he's been around this place long enough to understand that updates don't always come out on time. Hell, the rule is that they don't come out on time. Most of us have accepted that that's just the reality of a small dev team. ananzi, somehow, hasn't really grasped that fact.

perhaps he should rush his payment out too quickly, when it'll catch fire and make all our computers crash. rather than waiting until it's useful. har.

How about you rush out a patch that broadcasts Ananzi's location every 10 minutes as an unfortunate side effect.

Seriously though Ananzi, what do you want? Do you want the devs to stop announcing stuff before hand? Maybe they can try your programmers suggestion you posted in the suggestions forum and release one tried and tested patch every year, containing one new ship, one new mission and one new weapon. That sounds fun. Even Blizzard with all their resources can't normally manage a bug free patch.

It's clear you want changes, as you showed in your racetracks thread, but you aren't prepared to wait for them. You know the devs are honest, you know they're working hard on changes to make the game more fun for you and all you can do is whine when a patch is delayed by a couple of days.

/me hands ananzi a nice big cup of [deleted/excessively rude- FM].

This is a good example of different perspectives and discourses.

I am amazed to see the devs actually apologizing for having to delay the patch for two days. It's absolutely unecessary, but it's also absolutely wonderful. I've never come across a game community like this before, and the devs are a big part of this (even though the players contribute with their share of friendliness as well).

And this fella has the nerve to complain? He must have spent these last few years in MMORPG heaven, with a developer team not only as innovative, helpful, friendly and forthcoming as Guild Software, but at least as rich as Blizzard as well. Good for him. Less so for us, who has to see his posts in the forum.

As for the crippled imagery... please, speak plainly. That metaphor was just horrible.

Grrr, got here too late to read the metaphor, still...

*flings stuff at ananzi*

The metaphor here is a comparison between late delivery of this week's update and late delivery of payment.

How about a..

"Connection Delayed"

for ananzi? >:P

I don't know, but aren't you guys in the least bit amused by Incarnate and a1k0n's comments? :D

Somewhat by Incarnate's.

I actually agree with ananzi. Nice metaphor.

I do understand it takes a lot of work to put out an up date and I do know you want it as bug free as possible. My question is why do you have to announce an update at all before its done? Maybe if the developers had not announced the last update in advance they would have had less pressure and more time to complete it.

I think when you are ready for the next update you should either wait till its finished then announce it or don't say a specific date. Give yourselves all the time you need to work on it. It’s a win-win scenario.

Maybe if people didn't keep on asking when something is going to be relesed, developers wouldn't give release dates.
Sep 18, 2005 roguelazer link
Those of us who ask don't complain. Maybe they should tell us and us alone. :P

The problem is that many people expect to know when the next update is coming. There have been some rather hostile posts about the lack of an update just prior to the announcement of this latest patch. I imagine the emails have been even more pointed.

I've suggested that they heavily exaggerate the time needed to release updates, but I think that the tasks expand to fit the deadline.

Much of what the devs are doing involves wading through code that hasn't seen the light of day in quite some time. Once they have made their software tools, updates are likely to be much easier, less buggy, and more predicatble as to how much time they will take to release.
