Thanks for wasting our time

I'm all for player and guide created content. I think it's the best part of the game. So imagine my tremendous disappointment at the fantastic carrot dangled in front of our faces tonight, only to find it was a badly drawn crayon outline of something not at all resembling a carrot...

Tonight we saw a White Guide message that read something like "Massive supernova kills mecha touriuas at a previously unknown station in Helios". Well sweet! We don't see stuff like this that often, and so myself and 8 other people went searching. After an hour and after scouring every single sector in Helios (including the sun sectors) and finding nothing, we gave up. What gives? Why would you broadcast a message like that and log off? Why would you broadcast a message like that and not have anything ingame to back it up?

I love ingame events like these. I enjoy the little events that shake things up and give us something unexpected and interesting to do. It's incredibly disappointing and frustrating to seemingly be offered an interesting event only to find out it was nothing more than a silly message. Please, if you're going to broadcast things like this, have something to back them up. 9 of us wasted half our evening on a quest for a nonexistent carrot.

I understand your frustration and apologize for the snipe hunt.

It seems Mecha Tourias is leaving the game temporarily and wanted to go out with a bang, rather than the usual post. A guide assisted him to make an...interesting exit. The confusion this caused was inadvertent and regrettable. We'll discuss this among ourselves and avoid similar disappointments in the future.

In the meantime, what is THIS thing? http://images.vendetta-online.com/images/spyshot.jpg

spyshot.jpg is just another fantasy, I'd like to see a dev confirm that that image is of actual game content and not taken from some other game or sci-fi show and just using it to make some noise amoung us.

(Glad I didn't kill myself to try to get down to Helios then, I figured that it would be a red herring.)

Tumble, you *COULD* try to find the Neural Spike Implant, lost by Itani scientists, somewhere in grayspace this weekend!
A bus will be lost in grayspace, carrying the [NSI] device widget. It's worth 5 mil. All members of [IA] will be on standby, waiting for the return of the device!

5 MILLION Reward!

Who knows what horror may ensue if the HIVE or worse (the SERCO) can get their hands on it?

Neither I nor Guild have ever or would ever stoop so low as to do something like that. I resent the implication.

Never implied that Guild or a Guide were stooping, I simply saw Kixkizzles post before I saw the news link and thought he just posted some random image, I was corrected pleasantly, WOOT, NEW SHIP MODEL YAY DEVS, now lets see it ingame soon =)

Tumblemonster, et al:
The message concerning Helios was my doing and was meant as a send-off for Mecha.
I didn't realize you, and others would go looking for something which was not implied or, at least, hinted at. I was asked to put the message out at a specific time so I waited for that time while watching Mythbusters. I didn't pay much attention to chat after sending the message and logged off at the next commercial break.

If I do anything like that again, I'll be sure to put a disclaimer with it that will make it clear that there is nothing to it that involves gameplay.

Well a better story would have been nice :P A solar flare in an uncharted Helios sector for example, because lets face it, if the sun in Helios went nova, bye bye Helios, Pyronis may also go boom, Ukari would be ok, cos its gray space and hard :P

RelayeR, it's funny how you mention Mythbusters in this post thread about the rumored possibility of a new ship soon to come...

Hrmm...

Conspiracy theorists unite!
