I am but a freelancer, rogue and an occasional privateer, but I feel I must contribute with my views as an outsider and part of the Union.
Regardless of their past mistakes, the Itani of today seek only peace. And, while this might not sit well with the Serco and their injured honour and pride, that is the only thing that matters. A nation cannot be blamed for atrocities commited in the past. They should be judged by their current actions. Othwise, atonement would be impossible.
And the Itani of today want peace. They are even ready to make amends for their past mistakes. Perhaps the Akanese is just a decoy and hand-made excuse, and perhaps that scoutship did indeed pack a neutron bomb... I do not believe this to be the case, but even if it is, the Itani of today have no such desires or aggressions. If the Serco have their way, this war will continue until one or both nations are annihiliated.
And remember, to me and my brethren, this war is the most profitable source of income yet. And still, in spite of that, I hold these views. For a Union member, that is a significant sacrifice... ;-)

They want peace, or so they tell me as they batter my ship with rockets, as they attack our trader convoys and as they lay seige to our stations. How can this wanton violence show peaceful intent? If they truly wished peace, they would perform the following acts of restitution:
1) Cease all direct attacks on our trade convoys running between Sedina L-2 and Catequil Outpost.
2) Immediately desist from paying freelance pilots for the delivery of our convoy cargo to their territory, as such action is tantamount to state-sponsored terrorism.
3) Withdraw immediately from the captured territories in the Deneb system, leaving in its place an armed UIT peacekeeping force.
4) Acknowledge their attempted genocide upon the citizens of Serco Prime and make a formal statement of apology on the public newsnets.
Only when each and every term of this agreement is fulfilled will we accept a cease-fire, and begin to arrange for talks between our diplomats.

I just cut and pasted everything but you catch my drift. Anything you said we have done, you have also done. Besides, a great Abbat of Eo tried to make peace but was asassinated for his efforts. We have no guarantee that you would uphold your end of the bargain as well. And the UIT could do nothing as they are a loose consortium of major corporate concerns and population centers in the area.
