RE [Lockage]
"I don't want to squelch you here, but I also don't want to start another round of this based on old info. There will be a time, soon I hope, when such things can be discussed (here) rationally, without a lot of emotion attached.
I regret that I must lock this."

(1) Old info? I'd say some of today's events constitute fresh info.
(2) When such things can be discussed here rationally? Thank you ever so much for knowing when we've crossed that line of rationality, and then acting to save us from ourselves.
(3) You regret you *must* lock this? I regret your *choice* to do so; it is exemplary of what has rapidly become most troubling about this shitstorm in a teacup: Guild's reactions and lack thereof.
Lecter...
Whether the info is new or not, it's still the same basic situation and the same basic discussion.
Rationality is a vague and changing thing...
He's just doing what a Moderator does... stopping/preventing flaming/possible flames.
EDIT: Zoras goes to learn how to read.

Bringing up "he who must not be named" is a sure fire way to get a thread locked on these forums. I understand why that thread was locked and I agree with it.
Players are rehashing the same thing over and over again. In this case they aren't being constructive. Most people are only whining. There are a couple of places in the suggestions forums to make constructive comments and suggestions about the incident. If you just want to talk about it go to the Itani Alliance web site. There is a section there set up for people to vent.
Good job FM

Hehe, I'm not afraid to say his name! Lord Aroltemort! :)
And as for Lector... I understand where you're coming from, but if there is actually new info, it should be emailed to John. You can gripe on the IA board, and it will most likely be read by one or more of us, but this forum has a stricter policy about flamewars, and at the moment, FM is the one who's judgement we trust to enforce it. I hope that at some point we'll have a really great moderation system, and the community at large will be able to determine if something is worth reading.

I'm sorry you disagree.
1) His opening comments stated that he had not had a chance to comment earlier. Much has been said since "earlier". I directed him to where the action is.
2) The discussion has crisscrossed the line between emotional and rational several times. In order to fix the problem, we need to be able to work together. Emotionally charged comments are not conducive to that. Perhaps my use of the word "rational" was also too charged. At the moment I'm at a loss to find a term that would be less so. It *is* my responsibility to keep things constructive here. I find my self in the unenviable position of having to try to defend every decision I make to somebody, regardless of what it was. The fact that I, and the staff at Guild, take the time to discuss such things is exemplary of what is good about Vendetta, it's volunteers, and it's community.
3) If you like: "I am conflicted about the best course of action to take regarding your post. This is the one I have chosen."
Zoras: By "Guild's" he meant Guild Software

(He means Guild Software's reactions). Anyway, as I've posted about 10 times in the last week, the way to deal with any particular player abuse is to email me. I just checked my email, and I haven't gotten any complaints about Arolte since I spoke to him and told him to tone it down. If there's a problem, report it to me. john at guildsoftware dot com. Posting to the messageboard isn't a useful way of dealing with administrative problems. The whole "be nice" thing was about requesting positive, constructive discussion on here. Flamewars don't really do much for that.
So, as happened before, if you want "guild" (ie, me) to respond to a problem, you need to report the problem to me. The thread that FM locked did not have any "new info" that I saw, it was all commentary on the old arguement, which I think we've really hashed to death. Now, if you think the muting has some new ramifications, then feel free to discuss them. But the whole ranting arolte thing has been beaten to death, and as we determined last week, the problem is "gameplay issues need fixing" and "arolte needs to stop being so annoying", and I've attempted to fix both by putting some of my coworkers on the gameplay problems, and warning Arolte to not attack the same people over and over, or attack people who ask him to leave them alone. If anyone has evidence that either of these mandates has been violated, they may direct it to me via email. Thanks.

Having just finished a posting, I see I should have emailed it to you, Incarnate. I'll do so now. And I wasn't referring to the muting herein, sorry :)
Hahahahaha....lol, this is hilarious.

Well, if there needs to be more venting do it on the [IA] boards. That's why we made 'em available.

Although it seems that we're getting tired. Time for juice & cookies and a nap, everyone? After the nap we'll all be less cranky?
