As a former mental health care professional, I am not offended. I recall the day I learned that otherwise sane people can have an internal monologue. I thought it was just a plot device up until then. Somebody asked a patient if the voice he heard was his own voice, or somebody else's. At the time I thought they were being rude, but I was enlightened when I read more about it.

Straightjacket use was phased-out years ago, by the way. Much too dangerous.
