what happened, is he jealous, someone pirated him too much? I don't know, but this is overreacting in my opinion. It's like he's searching every review of vendetta on the web and trying to tell everyone that vendetta is made by 4 people on 3 platforms.
If you read this, where does the hate come from PhoenixHawk?

Huh? I read through it, and every single point he made is valid. Vendetta isn't perfect, and the devs admit it. It's a work in progress; it'll get better. For now, though, he's right.
The only thing I don't understand is why he thinks releasing it for 3 platforms is such a bad thing. Having mac and linux clients has atracted a lot of people who are probably more techsavvy than the average windows user, which should be a big bonus to the devs when sorting out problems.
I definitely agree with the point about the universe being mostly static. I think the devs have some plans regarding that, which we'll know about once the devwiki is operational.

Ya it's odd. I'm not quite sure WHAT his agenda is. He seems to take in a few well-known facts, regurgitates them with a great deal of vitriol, and then adds his own speculation. I wouldn't worry about it or feed into it.
Yeah, I agree with Moofed. I'm OK with him having his own opinion of VO & not liking it - I kinda wish he didn't go around to all the review sites & post bad ratings about it, but that's his choice. But I really don't see what his problem with developing it for the three platforms is. Intelligently designed programs are not particularly difficult to develop for multiple platforms. Yes, there are some things that are different, but it does not add significantly to development time. I remember when they introduced setting multiple jump points on the navmap, shift-click didn't work on Mac & Linux at first, but they had a temporary space-click work-around out in a couple hours, and had full shift-click working in a couple days. And that's basically the biggest hiccup I can think of that VO has had because of being developed for the three platforms.
What I don't understand is why he writes such long paragraphs. I don't think we're in any danger of anyone actually wading through them.
My take: Phoenix_Hawk's lambasting of tri-OS support is completely misplaced. I *love* the fact that I can play on my Windows-based hardware and my Mac/Linux-based friends can join in the fun, too. Some folks might call that development mind-set "open-minded" or even "forward-thinking." While Phoenix's theory that developing for all three OS's takes away time/resources from more important development activities may hold a drop of water, the fact that the game is available to those platforms makes so much sense in the long-term.
I'll end my critique of this review here because the rest of Phoenix's commentary is already known to the VO-community and doesn't need to be rehashed.

my question is, why is he spending soooooo much time on a game in his opinion isn't worth his $10 a month? How much does he get paid an hour?
Well, we weren't particularly nice to him here in the forums, that might be part of it. But still, he did kinda go out of his way to take offense, and he seems to be holding a grudge quite a bit longer than I think is very healthy. He doesn't like the game much, that's OK, nobody'll make him play it. He wants to tell other people that he doesn't like it, and why, so that they can make informed opinions - this is good, if the people who read his review have the same mindset as he does, and would form the same opinions; but bad if it keeps people from playing the game who would have liked it if they did play it.
Personally, I think it's better not to give negative reviews to the public at large, unless you're a professional reviewer. I recommend games/movies/books/etc. to people I know well enough to determine whether or not they would like it - if I don't know you, I have no idea what you will like or not, so I'd rather not risk telling you I think something is bad, because you might actually like it. And I'm all for people enjoying things, even if I myself don't enjoy the same thing. Professional reviewers are the exception, because they will have a large enough repertoire of reviews that readers can determine whether or not they trust the reviewer.

Huh, I missed the part about tri-OS compatability being bad... Perhaps he thinks more time could be spent on development if it were only for Windows?
I don't think people were particularly unpleasant to him initially.

It began to get a little more pointed at the end, but frankly it seemed like that was what was being trolled for. One could be expected to be treated a lot worse elsewhere - assuming that another official development website would allow that sort of thing in the first place.

I'm not so sure this is a him, but a her, maybe one that recently quit, nuff said.
No male could come up with that!

either way, i think anyone taking a serious look at vendetta would make note of the fact that hes the last review on EVERY vendetta site, (does he go around bumping his reviews every day?) and maybe assume that he is a bit biased against the game.
His points are totally valid in all cases except the 3 platform thing, tho i doubt that he got very far into the game with only the 8 hour trial, so his perspective on limited ship/weapon choices is based on a percentage of the game, not the total game.
If he wants to spend about 2 hours a week (i'm guessing thats about the amount of time it would take for him to hit all the major review sites each day to make sure his review stays on top) complaining about a game he didn't like... well I personally have better things to do with my time, but its a free country last time i checked.
He does rathar prove the cliche that 1 unsatisfied customer is more damaging than 3 satisfied customers are helpful tho doesn't he. :D

Oh I don't know. When I read strange long run on sentance odd-ball ranting reviews like this guy rights: I tend to come away with the opposite opinion.
I get the feeling that I don't like him while reading so it makes me want to believe the opposite viewpoint to his is true.
He sounds like he has a grudge for some reason. Only a fool would take his opinion seriously. If as a1k0n pointed out, they bother to wade through his tedious paragraphs in the first place.
When I read his post on the VO forums I really question his sincerity. Maybe he is trying to launch a space mmorpg to compete.
Actually I bet it's more like John stole his girlfriend in grade-school and he's still mad.

Bleh I don't like his opions. Oh well. I did see that thread and I think I remember him being mistreated. Ya that can be a major turn off for a MMO. Too bad he had and go and write a review like this.
I have to agree on one thing, active player counts are way down lately, and all the excuses I've heard on the forums for this are pretty feeble. I think Vendetta is in big trouble if this doesn't turn around.
This Idiot is not to be confused with me, The one and only.
macguy: scroll up a little and see the link I [ as Forum Mod.] posted to this thread. He wasn't mistreated. Read ALL the posts carefully, especially where he paraphrases previous posts and responds to them. Notice that the paraphrased version is much more unpleasant ("STFU") than what the original author actually posted?
fprefect: As I've said before, if you had the perspective of time you would see that things have been evolving rapidly.
EDIT: Err, sorry, I thought I was someone else.

See, this is what I'm talking about. What does that mean? Yeah, there have been some neat enhancements recently, but the average number of active players is HALF what it was not more than a month ago. Someone explain to me how that's progress..

The trend of lower player count might be attributable to factors outside VO, of course. It may be too soon to say that the VO community has decreased by half.
In America, April 15 was a tax deadline, and the work that goes into taxes might have kept some people away. Spring came for the Northern Hemisphere, and that surely had some people out in the nice[r] weather, or doing garden work. I know of one player who's in school, whose semester is drawing to a close. End-of-semester schoolwork must be keeping some others besides him away.
These are just some possible explanations that come to mind. Of course it's possible that some players got bored with having to trade, mine or bot just to be able to "afford" some time for PvP combat. I must admit, I'm getting pretty bored with those aspects of the game. I wish I could just sign up with an army that would provide the weapons and send me into battle. Trading and mining I find to be tedium, tedium, t e d i u m ....
