ubuntu 12.04 with intel HD3000 issues
I have several distinct issues.
first, ice roids don't get textured, just all black. The config file has shaders, compression, and AA turned off.
second, graphics settings reset at each game restart: textures get bumped to very low even though I set them to high. Should I manually set shaders on, that also gets reset to 0.
How do I get the game to not reset the config file, and how can I get some kind of textures on ice?

The config file thing sounds like vo isnt exiting clean, are you killing it or exiting via the exit option? Only edit config.ini when vo isnt running or changes manually wont persist. Shaders being reset to 0 is probably because vo detects that your card is pants.
The graphics thing, is unfortunately an Intel driver bug with bad OpenGL implementation. I dunno how you will get textures on 'roids.

clean exit on my part, can't say if the client crashes while exiting though.
It' a Intel driver bug with bad OpenGL implementation like Yoda mentioned.
I have the exact same HD3000 on a laptop. With Windows 7 installed, all the graphics are really nice, including the roids. When I formatted the drive and put Linux on it, the roids don't have texture, and randomly change colour to green, black and red. (upon starting the game client)

time for me to install win7 and dualboot. On that note, I hate windows boot loader, and what kind of an asshole company doesn't put default drivers on their recovery cd, I need to find all the windows drivers.

This isn't just an Intel thing. It happens with -any- of the open source Mesa/Gallium3D drivers. Including radeon and nouveau.

Thanks. I wish they'd fix the damn driver, cause it used to be working just fine. (at least with the nvidia cards)
I wish I knew what it was that VO does that makes it not work so I could tell one of the driver devs what is wrong so they can fix the damn driver...
Looks like an older thread, but I have a Ubuntu 12.04 with an Intel HD 4000, and I'm experiencing the same issue where I have to manually set the graphics settings at each load.
