explosion lag
Hello
I noticed an annoying lag when a bot explodes.
Up to 2 seconds.
When engaged in a dogfight with 2 or more bots, this lag cause severe disorientation. Suddenly, the remaining bots change position, and cargo also.
Regards.

Have you tried setting Compatibility Mode in the Network settings screen?
Hello,
Thanks for the suggestion.
Tried change from automatic to compatibility mode.
The explosion lag reduced a bit, but all other movements got worse, leading to very poor targeting and exposing my ship to enemy fire.
So, returned to automatic.
The lag continues.

does it get worse over time or is it constant?
What does /ping ingame say?
Hello,
/ping resulted in 254 +- 12.7 ms.
But today the explosion lag is not happening anymore.
Maybe some server side correction....
Thanks for the suggestions.
I was not aware of such commands.

Wow. 254 is really high latency, you know. Most people are between 50 and 100. What sort of connection are you on?
I've got exactly the same problem. Just started this weekend. My ping:
ping 134.1 +/- 10.0ms
It doesn't make much difference if Network is set to Auto or Compatibility, though the lag feels worse on Compatibility.
I did just migrate to xorg 7.0 so not sure if that's the problem.
EDIT: Here's a screenshot of the framerate graph during an explosion: http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/1606/dump0006bq1.png
You can see the framerate crash, causing the freeze.

Aah. Then it's a graphics issue. I didn't even think of that. What are your LOD settings?
LOD? Not sure what that means
I've noticed the sound is distorted sometimes too during these explosions. It's as if the whole explosion effect, sound, video, everything has to be loaded into memory each and every time.

Old thread, wish i would have seen it earlier. I take it you were on a basic or advanced combat mission? See when i kill a bot on those missions it very subtlely lags when updating the mission progress usually during the explosion of a bot. Your latency probably makes the lag during the explosion worse, my guess is it just lags for some reason when updating the mission, it doesn't do it for me when i'm not on the mission so it seems like a logical hypothesis :)
