Game not in focus on start
When Vendetta first starts (the game, not the updater), it's not in focus. I see the Vendetta cursor in the corner, but the Windows cursor is still visible and active. Once I Alt-Tab then the game becomes active. I first tried Vendetta under Windows with version 1.0.3 and still have this problem today.
WinXP Pro
VideoDriver=DirectX8.1 GKGL driver
GeForce FX 5900XT, driver 5.6.7.2
I've never seen this on my Linux PC.

Sounds like that you may be using an LCD screen with a set Pixel size and resolution. If you change the resolution of the game in OPTIONS to the same resolution you have for your Windows desktop, then you might see a difference. I had that same issue when first running VO on my laptop as the game first started in 640x480 and my laptop was optimized for 1024x768.
This happens to me all the time, and I'm not using an LCD
I call SetFocus a few more times now. Update 1.0.7 hopefully will fix this. Try it when the update comes out, please.
It seems to be fixed. (Tested twice.)
Hmm, just tried 1.0.10 and the bug is back.
[Edit:]
And a simple Alt-Tab didn't put it in focus. I had to Alt-Tab-Tab-Tab-Tab. It's probably the same as before, but I had more apps open this time.
I've had a lot of trouble with this on another WinXP computer, I haven't tried Vendetta on that computer. On the "other" computer, it happens often with just about every app, but I've always blamed it on having Microsoft's Virtual Desktop Manager installed (part of PowerToys). I don't have PowerToys installed on this computer.
I'm beginning to think it's a bigger problem with WinXP, not Vendetta or Virtual Desktop Manager. Good thing my Linux PC is running again :D

Ohh, yeah, it's most likely the virtual desktop manager.
Are you running a manager on the machine you're having problems with VO?

I knew I shouldn't ramble so much. Then the real information get's burried: "I don't have PowerToys installed on this computer." So, no, I don't have anything like that installed. Not much is installed on it, but I do tend to tinker with Windows options. If I motivate myself, I'll see if there's some option or background process that has some invluence on it.
Oh, heh. I misunderstood. I thought you meant you didn't have powertoys installed on the one with windows virtual desktop running.
Do you have any IM programs running? Maybe they're stealing focus for a split second.

No I don't. But it did just dawn on me that my problems with the "other" computer probably aren't because of the Virtual Desktop, but because I have have "focus follows mouse" (or whatever it's called) turned on (I think you enable via Tweak UI, also part of PowerToys). Again, this is not my Vendetta computer, but I mention it as something that could probably cause problems. "Focus follows mouse" (for those non-*nix users) allows you to move the mouse over a window to put it in focus, without moving it to the forground. Microsoft's implementation is screwy.
I can't get it to happen right now, but I'll keep playing with it tonight.

I can't get it to happen tonight (tried various scenarios, including rebooting). The only thing that I can think of is I usually finish reading the forums and then close Mozilla. Perhaps whatever screwy things Mozilla's Quick Launch is up to has an effect. (I know Quick Launch does something funny after closing Mozilla because it removes its icon from the tray and adds a new icon; maybe it's reloading?)
I'll be more conscious of my actions when launching Vendetta in the future in case it happens again. (I don't usually use WinXP for Vendetta, though, so who knows how long it will take.)

Ahh yeah, 'focus follows mouse' breaks stuff too. I forgot about that. Windows really wasn't made to work that way, unfortunately.
"Windows really wasn't made to work that way" - is that why Windoze does not work then? because it was designed not to? hehe...
Also happens to me, i usually launch V with no open applications in the background, but a few times i have left the sound mixer open, and clicking anywhere inside an open window thats behind V, minimises V, and brings the said app to the foreground.
I dont use IM programs, or have things like tweak xp/powertoys (prefer to tweak things myself...) or emule/mlnet installed on this PC, (Fresh formatted 3 days ago, Windows xp, breakage pack 2)
Works great under linux =D

Hmm. I dunno. I don't really want to catch OnLoseFocus and force it back because then you'd never be able to alt-tab out of VO if you wanted to.
Should it be loosing focus because of my sound mixer window? Can get annoying when trying to, for instance, I use a stick, therefore i can fly/navigate/target using u while still flying/turning/shooting ;o) If i click inside said area (maybe because my sound mixer happens to be in the same place my destination/taget is...), minimised, and usually dead... Could do without loosing alt+tab and getting caught playing at work though..... Hmmm. looks like im just going to have to remember to close things eh? ;o)
I also have this exact same problem. I'm using Windows XP Pro service pack 2. GeForce 4 video. Latest directx. Cursor's there but.. as the previous poster described.
I am on a CRT monitor running at the same res in game that I am on the desktop. Interestingly enough, everquest also used to have this very same problem when I played it on my old machine. Required an alt tab to properly work.
EDIT: Launched successfully tonight and had focus. if I get this again I'll quit out and try and work out what causes it.
