No Sound in Windows 7 64-bit
Hi,
I just downloaded the vendetta online trial, and it works great except there's absolutely no sound. I checked and sound is working properly for my other applications, but Vendetta is no bueno. I tried changing the driver from Windows Vista to Windows Sound (WAV) to no effect.
System specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93 3.42 Ghz
8 GB RAM
2 x NVIDIA GTX480
On-board sound
Bose Companion-5 computer speakers (USB)
Let me know if you need any other information. I'm not sure what to do from here.
Regards,
Benn

Does anybody have any ideas? This problem is entirely preventing me from playing the game.
Hmm, looks like the sound server is crashing for you. One thing to try would be to tell Windows to use a sane sampling rate. Right click in your Volume Icon (In the system tray) and click playback devices. In the new Window, select your USB Speakers and then click *Properties*. In the new Window that opens, goto the Advanced tab, and change the Default Format to "24bit, 44100Hz (Studio Quality)" Apply it and now try start VO. Hopefully you should now see these lines in your waverror.log

Hi yoda, thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, for some reason the default format select box is grayed out - I cannot change it. Something appears to have locked it.
I'll repost in the bug forum if you don't have a suggestion about how to make that box come alive again.
Thanks.

I wonder if this is a channel problem, have you tried setting the speakers to Stereo? Just incase you do not know how, right click the volume and open playback devices again, highlight your USB speakers, but instead this time click Configure, and (if possible) select Stereo and run through the rest of the Wizard, and try run VO.
Even if this works it should still be considered a bug, because you will of course have to run through that wizard to get 5.1 back after, maybe those speakers use the same sound chip found in Logitech G35?

I know this thread is a bit old, but I HAD the exact same problem earlier this week. What fixed it for me was disabling ALL sound devices except the one I actually wanted to use. Once I did this it worked without a hitch.
I don't know if this will fix it for others, but worth a try.
Good luck!

I have almost exactly the same hardware with the exact same issue....
System specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 Ghz
8 GB RAM
2 x NVIDIA GTX 285 SLI
On-board sound
Bose Companion-5 computer speakers (USB)
I have tried all potential fixes indicated in this thread with no success. If anyone else has an idea please share it...
Thank you

I had the same issue. Setting the games Exe to Vista SP2 solves it.
I have the same issue on my new computer, but when I switch to Vista drivers sound works fine.
I have Win7 x64 as well. No sound with Vista driver. When I switched to another option (WAV), I started to get sound and music, but there was some echo and clicking
I had to pick the windows vista sound driver in game to get sound and you have to change windows sound to 2 channel in windows (doesnt remember where I found it)
I had a similar problem when I first started. Trucegore's solution worked (though it was someone else in-game who suggested it to me).
Right-click the VO shortcut, select Properties, click the Compatibility tab, check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)" from the drop-down box. Click OK and run the game from that shortcut. In game, make sure you have the Windows Vista driver selected in the Audio options.

We recently fixed an audio bug on systems with more than 2 channel sound. It should solve the problems reported in this thread.
In the executable In current use, one still requires setting the executable to vista sp2 compatible mode to get this to work.
I have no sound in Win7 x64, and I've managed to peg down why.
My headphones (Logitech G930) operate on 48kHz sample rate. VO doesn't like that.
If I set my headphones to 44kHz, they don't like it: I get random bursts of max-volume static, causing my ears to hop off and run away.
The solution, I guess, is to either for Logitech to get their act together, or Guild to poke their audio engine until it supports 48kHz sample rate.
The latter being more likely to happen before the sun burns out.
