Wireframe!
How about an option to toggel between normal rendering and color coded wireframes? I.E. Roids have a grey frame, NMEs a red one.
It would help the people on crap computers play and it would look hella cool.

Wireframe mode was (supposedly) removed due to the possibility of it being used to locate hidden stations, and was in fact used to do just that.
I'd like to see wireframe *with* object occlusion. Not terribly useful but would be a nice Elite rememberance.
What hidden stations are left to find?
Mabey a hidden star system or somthing but not stations.

This was during the period when there were only like 18 sectors.
At the moment though they've got occlusion culling they're not doing it cause given the number of hidden polygons it's rarely worth it (this was true a while ago may have changed).
The main reason I can see for doing object occlusion is if you can detect whether or not to render an object, you also know whether it is in LOS and hence whether it should appear on radar.
It's my contention that game play would improve if terrain had a bigger impact on play. Hiding out in a 'roid field or within the tunnels of some station complex could be fun. Some of the older station complexes, and particularly the maze like racing tunnels had a very cool Descent feel to them.

'/query video linemode' not good enough of a wireframe mode for you?
Not since it hasn't worked for a year or so, no.
It has worked for the past 3 months, ctishman. It was readded in 3.5.0.
Make sure your clear on how to turn it off before you turn it on, you may find yourself force quiting and edditing your config.ini
What? Sweet!
alias toline "l1"
alias l2 "query video polygonmode; alias toline l1; echo 'Polymode'"
alias l1 "query video linemode; alias toline l2; echo 'Linemode'"
bind "." toline
I love my wgaf.cfg. :D

On closer inspection linemode is F8 default poly is F9
But why is it not in the menus?
Edit: the wireframe kills instruments and text
