It is time for a turret version of the Gatling Turret.
I propose the same specs as the current Gatling Turret, just make it work in a turret.
I propose renaming the current weapon called the 'Gatling Turret' which is not a turret, to the 'Gatling Canon MkII'
I think with this change we will see four people stuffed into moths again, riding around looking for trouble. I suspect they will get used on tridents too. I'm thinking gunners who are on tablets might find themselves more effective.

Also give these Turrets the stats of a Hive Queen Gat for them to be seriously effective.

+1! I would love to see a moth fly around spraying out three gats
+1 I absolutely do not want gunners on my ships, but with a wide enough firing cone, this should be useful.
At one point, after dev removed beam cannon turrets, HACs had some kind of gattling turrets and they were later replaced with the gauss turrets.
Beam cannons & gat turrets were both much better then what we have now.

I think the stats should stay the same
The gatlings tend to be very network-spammy, and then people start complaining about "lag", which is why I yanked them from other capships back in the day. I tested them on the Teradon too, but it was just too much.
Anyway, yeah, that's feasible, and pretty easy to drop in. But, I'm getting on a plane for GDC in a few hours, it'll have to wait until I get back.

With the limitation of the way the game quantizes time, these don't fire all that much faster than neutron blasters do. Certainly not as fast as their advertised stats would have you believe.
+1 to adding this as a player-accessible weapon. It's wider A/A cone would help a little bit with this problem...
+1 to putting some of them back on HACs and Constellations for point defense. They probably should have a couple of swarm launchers too.

Errm, wasn't lag only a problem when AGT was ammo based? I thought that's why it was made energy only.
Probably for the same reason they caused lag when they hit someone. Inventory updates.

Sounds like a good opportunity to sit in a trident, be lazy, and chirp in 100.

You could bomb the Trident if you have a problem with it, Ore.
Or just leave you guys alone to shoot space rocks with your new gats.
You already do that anyways.
Right so let the game continue down this road of building tridents and sitting in them does what exactly?
Until cap ships are fleshed out a little more, this business of making a weapon for the purposes of spamming a sector is going to descend the game into uncharted gameplay.
Good luck with that.

/me hands ore a tissue. There there. It will all be over soon enough.
It will?!
I like silk. Do you have a silk hankie

Yeah, but it's been used once or twice. ;) Don't worry - it's dry now.
Frankly, what's driving most of these requests for the Trident is it's the only capship we've got. If we had the Teradon, you'd see most requests for that, since it actually IS a combat ship. The Trident is more a Corvette or Escort than a Frigate, designed more for protecting larger capships than being one.

Watching two people fight in tridents is like watching Judo matches on TV. They're both defensive and supportive. They're not assault crafts, which is why until the Teradon gets dropped, we won't see any cool cappie on cappie action.
