New /passenger option
It would be very useful for a /passenger invite user
That way someone trying to learn something such as the use of rockets, could ride along with someone that knows how to use them. It would be a great training tool.
The passenger would not have any function other than their chat area would work. They could /passenger leave any time they would like. Not sure how hard it would be to add, but would be useful.

Hmm. +1 for a passenger on Ec-89 ;)
-1 to passengers on small ships
+1 to passengers on cappies and ships with turrets.
instead of a new command, just make possible to gunners to see what the pilot sees, as an alternative camera mode.

Guys, I think you're missing the point. This is being suggested as a learning tool.
Many MMOs past and present have similar functions.

Only available in Faction space then?
Or just make it not transport the passenger. Rather than /passenger, it would be /observer invite "Player Name". It would ask the player for confirmation, and then slave their view to the ship until they /observer leave or are /observer kick'ed. When kicked they'd warp back to the station they started from.
This could even work universe-wide as long as the observer is docked. No need for the observed party to already be docked, nor in the same sector.

I still prefer to keep it limited only to ships with turrets, and as an alternate camera mode for gunner... like, the gunner press a button then can look forward while travelling.
Really Alloh ye should do sumething with that obsession fer turrets ye has hunny : )
You are misunderstanding the intent of this suggestion, Alloh. The whole point is to be able to teach others through first-hand experience, and using ships designed for combat roles is really needed to properly teach combat.

The devs are planning to implement recording functionality that could make this suggestion unnecessary, but it is a good idea for the interim.

I think it's a good idea anyway. Recordings are great and all, but this would be real-time. If they use voice chat, they can actually talk to eachother about the maneuvers as they are executed, and the pilot can modify his method on he fly to help the trainee to understand.

+1. Though I think for this to honestly help newblets learn anything the view they have would need to include a step by step of what the pilot was doing. Perhaps a special chat channel activated when the trainee gains access which shows what keys the pilot has pressed. Lets be honest, a lot of newblets breeze through the tutorials without really paying much attention to anything except the very basic flight stuff.
So, if this included a really in depth/all inclusive view of what the pilot does, not just when he fires and how the ship moves... it could be extremely useful as a learning tool.
